What To Expect

Indian cuisine is justifiably famous around the world, and there’s no better place to sample some favorite bites than in the streets of Mumbai. With a local guide to show you the best street food vendors, you can taste a variety of both lesser-known dishes and Mumbai classics.

After meeting your guide in South Mumbai at Churchgate railway station, set out for Chowpatty Beach to sample vegetarian favorites like pav bhaji (a spicy vegetable curry) and bhel puri (a crunchy snack with puffed rice, vegetables and tangy tamarind sauce).

Next up, discover the busy food stalls along Mohammed Ali Road, which has a reputation as a foodie heaven. You’ll see a variety of meat cuts sizzling on streetside grills, all tended by vendors who specialize in specific dishes.

Stroll through the bustling alleys near Minara Masjid, the epicenter of the city’s Ramadan celebrations and one of Mumbai’s many mosques. Then take in the labyrinthine Bhendi Bazaar, a market in the historically Muslim neighborhood, and hear from your guide about the multi-million dollar redevelopment plan proposed for the area.

Towards the end of your walking tour, satisfy your sweet tooth at a shop that was established more than a century ago. Sample hand-churned ice cream in unfamiliar flavors or nibble a bright-orange jalebi (a deep-fried sweet soaked in syrup).

Expect to walk at a leisurely pace with plenty of stops for samples and photo ops, the perfect way to explore the world of Mumbai street food.

Chowpatty Beach

Two South-Asian New Yorkers on a short stop in Mumbai went on a tour to try street food. Instead, we found ourselves in Punjab, Gujrat, Rajasthan, South India, Kolkata, and then some. One would think having sampled from the major desi enclaves on both US coasts, there would be little that would surprise us from food stalls here. Then you encounter raspberry and sapodilla-flavored kulfi, kachoris that are simultaneously sweet and savory that you dip in sweet yogurt, lassi so thick you need a spoon, pav bhaji and pani puris eaten beachside. In between, you will experience the frenetic yet efficient Mumbai metro. You will share a cab with passengers who may or may not be strapping gigantic bags of shopping to the roof of your ride. You will walk the streets and witness traffic lights and organized crowds give way to chaotic storefronts with patrons spilling out into the roads, motorbikes and families sharing the same lane with cows. You will sit in plastic chairs or stand in corners that feel like oases as you eat impossibly tender kebabs and snacks made of eggs, bread, butter and alchemy. You will realize that this tour may be about food, but you will come away with an uncanny sense of the pulse of this city- an understanding of its massive scale, its' tremendous challenges, and the huge hearts of those that call it home. So come hungry, and come curious. You might find yourself full both in stomach and in experience.
Amazing Food Safari

This was an amazing tour! Our guide, Raj, took us to an array of places so that we could experience the variety of dishes that Mumbai has to offer. Not only was he knowledgeable about the food and their regions but also about the city and its amazing traditions. We were all well fed so bring an appetite!
Fantastic beautiful food

A fantastic evening exploring the food delights of Mumbai. So many different flavours to experience and a very interesting tour guide. We thoroughly enjoyed it and can't recommend it enough. Do it!
Fantastic food, awesome time!
Ethan_U, Dec 2022
I had a fantastic time with my two guides, Javed and Hitesh, on a private food tour! During the whole tour, I felt very comfortable as if I was hanging out with my two good friends. They took me to many popular areas in Mumbai for me to try 14 heaven-in-the-mouth food items! They provided many interesting facts about the city and Indian culture that I wouldn't have otherwise known. I highly recommend this company to anyone that wants to safely experience the most out of Mumbai's food scene. If Hitesh and Javed are an example of what this company is all about, then I trust that all their guides are just as professional and excellent. I garauntee you will have an amazing time and a deeper appreciation for the Indian culture, beauty, and delicious food. 10 out of 10 recommend!
Great Street Food Your

This was my second time on this tour. I had to come to Mumbai for a conference and a repeat of this tour was a must as I enjoyed the first so much. This time was equally as great. Super friendly guides took us to a great number of street food vendors to sample some wonderful Mumbai food. Remember to go hungry!! A definite must tour on any trip to Mumbai.
For foodies!
Tommi_S, Nov 2022
In the midst of chaotic Saturday night, we were taken to places we would never have found - but where the local snacks and dishes were delicious. It was great to get acquainted with not only Mumbai's but also Northern and Southern Indian customary dishes. I guess we tasted 12-15 different ones - enough for even larger appetites. Good work, Switi and your colleagues!

Best food in mumbai
Chris_J, Nov 2022
Javid our guide was very enthusiastic and clearly very proud of this eclectic city. The food was extremely tasty, hygiene excellent and catered for vegetarians as well as lovers of meat. Highlight had to be the chaos of the Muslim area, it was simply FULL ON.
Great tour
Veronika_G, Oct 2022
A lot of food, all hygienic and delicious. We did a vegetarian tour - really rich menu, made me feel so full that couldn’t eat anymore. Tour involved street and restaurant food. Krishna and Raj were really nice companions for the tour and their profits go for NGO supporting slum in Mumbai. Would definitely recommend.
Don’t miss a chance to explore and eat
Jonah_H, Sep 2022
Excellent tour! The guide was very friendly, knowledgeable about Mumbai, and took me to neighborhoods I never would have found on my own. I’ll do it again when I’m back.
So much food!
Courtney_G, Sep 2022
Great tour! So much more food than expected and it was a great bonus that we got to take a train ride. Definitely recommend to get a nice sampling of traditional foods!

Amazing food. Even greater company.
L_M, Jul 2022
It was just me and Hitesh, like a personal tour. It was strolling and hanging out with a new friend. The food was great. Because it was only two of us, we had to eat all the food ourselves! We. Were. Stuffed. Hitesh’s company was even better. This young man has so much potential and is going to do great things in his life. It’s monsoon season and tourism is still recovering from Covid, so hit them up and help bring things back to normal. Also, I’m sorry, Hitesh, for spilling Sprite on your bag! Twice! I’m such a clumsy doof…
Solid tourist experience, tasting real Mumbaikar street food
Erik, Aug 2020
Food was tasty and accommodated vegetarians as well as a wide range of spice levels. Timing was good too. It was nice to ride the train and wander through several different environments. Guides were helpful, easily reached, and spoke good English.
Must do- Mumbai Street food tour
Andrew_b, Mar 2020
Our guide was excellent and absolutely needed to navigate the very busy streets to find safe eating places. It was a really good experience we will never forget.
Good insight into the city
Reena_A, Feb 2020
Our guide Jannad was knowledgeable and a gentleman. The vegetarian part of the tour was better than the meat part and was tastier. I like the fact that money from the ticket support children’s education in dharavi..
Fun, food and friendships

A fantastic small group tour full of laughs, fantastic food, and sensory overload (in a great way). Fun group of tour guides and the added bonus of supporting a charitable organisation.

This is one of the favorite tours I've ever been on! Awesome food, our guide was very knowledgeable, fun, and funny. We tried things and places that I never would have found on my own. SO GOOD! Highly recommend.
Very good street food tour
Theidco, Dec 2019
We were met at church gate station by our guide and we whisked off in our small group of four on the train which was an experience on its own. We arrived at the beach and were introduced to all sorts of street food that we ate while sitting and looking into the sea, my favourite was the pani puri’s. We then got into taxi’s and arrived in a Muslim street food area where we tried all sorts of meat food items freshly cooked over flames, very tasty indeed. We then walked to an ice cream shop that served the most tasty fresh hand made fruit ice creams. Our tour guide (Juna, not sure if I spelt that correctly) was a mine of information and answered all questions that we had, an excellent guide. I would most definitely recommend this tour.
A must-do for every foodie in Mumbai
Tinus S, Dec 2019
Tavrej took us from Chowpatty Beach, to the backstreets, to the streets behind the backstreets, in pursuit of the most amazing streetfood Mumbai has to offer. He was funny, charming and knowledgeable, and always made us feel safe. He went through great effort to show us different cultures of cuisine in the city, and he picked some excellent (and renowned, in some cases) examples.
Food and restaurants nice
