Your tour begins with 7am pickup at your Mumbai hotel and transfer by private vehice to the Gateway of India ferry terminal. Board your ferry for the 1-hour crossing to Elephanta Island, taking in waterside views of the city of Mumbai and coast.
Upon arrival at the island, your guide takes you through the seven caves in the Elephanta Caves complex. The caves were cut from solid basalt rock in the 5th to 6th centuries, although the builders' identity is a matter of debate. The main cave features high ceilings punctuated by tall support beams, columns, and pillars, and original wall art with detailed reliefs and carvings depicting the goddess Shiva.
Walk with your guide to Stupa Hill and the eastern part of the island where you learn about the excavation work and the Buddhist wall art in two more caves. To end your your, return to Mumbai by ferry, then continue to your hotel with a private transfer that drops you off around 2pm.
