Great tour! The castles were wonderful and we would highly recommend to visit them. The Hotel Muller was very nice with a great little balcony and a view of the mountains! A little more info regarding how the bus trip works would have been helpful. Since we didn't get the info until the 1st hotel and we were busy site seeing, we did not realize that the bus stops frequently for short visits to some of the towns on the romantic road. Rothenburg was also a fabulous unique town to visit...don't forget to stop at one of the many bakeries!

The places we visited are great and worth visiting. But I felt this tour is just a combination of bus tickeet and hotels and therefore it seems better to book the bus ticket and hotels separately. It would be better if we could have lunch at Augsburg or somewhere on day2 and/or we could arrive at Frunkfurt before 1800 on day3.

Hi, On July 19th 2015, as part of the 3-day Munich to Frankfurt Romantic Road tour, we took the bus operated by Touring Tours and Travel from Munich and this was supposed to cover both Linderhof and Neuschwanstein castles. However the tour guide said that Neuschwanstein was very crowded and said that given guided tour slots available, he will first go to Neuschwanstien and then to Linderhof castle. We told him that we have accommodation booked at Hotel Muller but that didn't matter. At Neuschwantien, the guide hurried us up so much to keep the tour slot 12:20pm for 20 people and 12:45pm for the remaining that he made us skip going to the St. Mary's bridge for a view of the castle. This was very disappointing. After checking in at Hotel Muller, we enquired on bus facilities and taxi options if we went to Linderhof but given that it was a Sunday, these options were limited and the taxi charges were exorbitant. The people at Hotel Muller were very helpful in this regard. In the end we chose to skip going to Linderhof castle as the bus left for Linderhof at around 3pm and there was no easy way of returning to Hotel Muller that day. We are extremely disappointed for not seeing Linderhof castle and wanted to bring this to your attention. On the positive side, the rest of the trip from Neuschwanstien to Frankfurt was excellent and went according to plan. The hotel at Rothenburg was very nice as well. thanks prasad

Great tour! A few comments though: The time allotted for Linderhof Castle is too short. Although Oberamagau is a great place, I would have wanted to spend a bit more time at Linderhof Castle and a bit less time at Oberamagau.

Definitely sleep over at Neuschwanstein area and Rothenburg. Only way imo to really enjoy the area or else it would just be too stressful. The bus ride through romantic road was scenic but not much to really explore or do. Was a bit rushed as well.

Sally C, Sep 2014
The bus was modern, clean and comfortable and drinks available on board at good price. The tour stopped at great places and we were able to get off the bus and spend adequate time along the way. Day 1 to Hohenschwangau and Neuswanstein castle was fantastic. Mueller Hotel great location, very comfortable, great restaurant and the town itself is a delight once the day tourist buses leave! Multitudes of tourists mean that you have to rigidly adhere to your time to visit the caste. Day 2 took us ultimately to Rothenburg which was even better than the pictures - definitely worth the stopover. Only complaint was the hotel which was not as good as the "named" hotel in the brochures and definitely further from the centre. Day 3 is a long trip after a late afternoon start from Rothenburg. Day 2 actually takes you back to Munich and then a few hours on the autobahn before heading back into the picturesque romantic road itself. Tour guides a bit hit and miss. Best was a local middle aged man who knew the area intimately and provided real insights. Other tour guides just read the basic information to the onboard travellers and didn't seek to connect. Research your stopovers and you will have a great time.

Fantastic beginning of the trip. The castles were breathtaking. The hotels they put us up in were great. The only fault with the trip was that on our second day the bus driver was late, and then we got stuck in a huge traffic jam on the autobahn. We were stuck in a stand still for 3 hours. Because of this we missed a good deal of the romantic road part. But we did arrive at our final destination on time and Rothenburg was better than I had imagined. I would definitely recommend the trip.

Except for the tour to neuschwanstein, the rest of the tour was excellent. The procedure for the tour drop off at the first hotel was confusing and not well communicated. The driver was rude and sarcastic and the guide did not explain what we were supposed to do clearly. Expensive for whole tour

Unfortunately it was a complete disaster. I paid everything on my own account and am waiting For Viator to give me back my money.

Stefanie K, Oct 2013
Overall the romantic tour brought us some really beautiful places in Germany, and we enjoyed the tour very much. However, I think the tour package is slightly overpriced for the quality of the hotels we got. Hotel muller in neuschwanstein was good but the boutique hotel golden rose in rothenburg was not up to our expectations. We were given a room isolated in a guest house a short distance away from the main building and in the middle of the night, I had a spooky encounter. This was indeed terrible and my very first experience. I suggest that viator reviews the hotel rooms provided to their guests as it is indeed sad to associate such a pleasant place with spooky memories.

The bus was great, the activities too and also the Hotel in Hohenschwangau. My only comment is about the Hotel in Rothenburg which very awful and uncomfortable, I was expecting a Hotel as good as the one in Hohenswangau.

Ian M, Jul 2013
The Bavarian alps, castles and accommodation at Hohenschwangau excellent. Bus trip to Rothenburg not so good, the bus went back to Munich (a big waste from our point of view) and the bus driver contributed very little, he explained almost nothing and let people get off at Rothenburg station instead of the main town. Our day in Rothenburg was excellent, accommodation very good and bus driver to Frankfurt helpful and entertaining.

We really enjoyed this tour. It worked exactly as promised--our papers were at our first hotel when we arrived and all of our cabs showed up to transport us to the next location. We loved all the towns we stayed in. This is a very beautiful part of the world and we are glad we got to see it.
Everyone has to see the Romantic Road...
Tahnee H, May 2013
Everyone has to see the Romantic Road! It is just simply beautiful. If I were to do it again I would do it myself. Don't get me wrong this tour was very well organised and I didn't have any problems, but on the second day you don't have many bus stops so miss so many great villages. Previous reviews commented on the confusion at the bus stop on the first morning, I thought it was relatively straight forward. There were 3 buses all going to the same place and the difference was the language spoken on board. The bus drivers are really friendly so just ask and they will point you to the correct bus. The first day is also linked with the Royal Castles one day trip so when we stopped for lunch, those staying overnight, checked into hotels and then continued with the group for the rest of the afternoon. I stayed at Hotel Muller and loved it - nice food and good character. The second day was a long day travelling, we started at 8am and arrived in Rothenberg approx. 4pm. 2hrs of this day were spent heading to Munich which is a pain, though you don't miss any of the romantic road. The third day we were picked up at 4pm and arrived in Frankfurt at 8pm. All of the transfers from and to the bus stops were very prompt and we had no hassles whatsoever. Overall, we enjoyed this independent tour but would recommend others to hire a car and spend a couple of extra days exploring more villages.

We loved our Viator 3-day Munich to Frankfurt Tour Romantic Road. The first bus we were on was great, a really nice tour bus and our stops at the castles were great. Hotel Mueller was wonderful. The bus from Hohenschwangau was not as nice as the first bus from Munich to Hohenschwangau. The stops in Augsburg and Dinklesbuhl were way to short because we went back to Munich to pick people at the bus station. Totally a waste of our time for the tour. Rothenburg was wonderful and Hotel Spitweig so unusual and quaint. The nightwatchman tour - great!!. The bus trip from Rothenburg to Frankfurt was not as enjoyable. Was only a bus ride, no stops to tour, and only when we asked why there were no tour tapes playing did the driver put one on to describe where were riding through. It was obvious that from Rothenburg to Frankfurt was not a tour and was just a bus ride with the driver picking up and letting off people. That was really disappointing.

It was awesome!! I would recommend it to everyone. The beginning was confusing because none seemed to know what bus we were suppose to go on. Ran into traffic so we were rush at the Palace. That was a bummer. We still enjoyed the trip. The nightwatch man tour was really cool in Rothenburg. Very Funny and entertaining. AMG.
A disjointed 3 days. The first morning...
Sandra Anne D, Aug 2012
A disjointed 3 days. The first morning when we were to meet the bus was confusing. Several busses were there, we were told to just get on one and the guide would make sure we got to the hotel that night. The guide seemed confused about that. So we were on a crowded 2 story bus going to the Neuschwanstein castle. This guide talked a lot about 'very little'. We didn't expect to have to give the guide 21 euros each for the admission. We did not receive our information package until we reached the hotel that night. The castle tours were good and we had enough time at the 2 castles that we visited. The first night's hotel was fine, the hotel staff drove us down to the bus stop the next morning and we caught a different bus with a different driver (Kirksell) He was very friendly and spoke English well. We returned to Munich - we didn't expect to be backtracking. That day we stopped in several small towns and had short (20-30 mins) to explore on our own. People got on and off the tour all day. That night we arrived in Rothenburg. The tour included a "Nightwatchman" tour. This was really good!!! The hotel that night was extremely old (500 years) very hot. Old bed and pillow. The next day we were on our own until 4:00 then a taxi took us to the bus stop and we boarded a different bus with a different driver. This guy was impatient. He left a few minutes early and left 2 girls behind. When he was told he ran back on foot and got them. Then 2 other girls realized they had missed their stop and he kicked them off!
