Best tour I’ve ever taken part in

Alan is by far the best guide I’ve ever listened to in decades of traveling thru Europe. I’ve done Dachau 2x over the last 15 years & believes nothing was left to learn, only booking this so my partner could get a detailed guide of the site as we walked thru. There’s not a single flaw in Alan’s way of communicating the past implications of Dachau’s existence as he effortlessly gets you to think about the importance of staying conscious of the repetitive nature of history. He was made to do this tour, do yourself a favor book, you’ll reap benefits way after the visit is done.

You managed to very sensitively tell the story and history while also giving us time to think about how we might respond now and in the future to help make the world a better place. We appreciated the small tour group (12 in our group compared with other groups walking around of 30+ people) so that we had time to reflect and ask questions. I highly recommend this small group tour to others who want to make the most from the experience of Dachau.

Alun was absolutely phenomenal! Giving him 5 stars is not enough. He has a plethora of knowledge that is unbelievable. I have learned history over the years, but he taught me so much more. We were a group of nine, so it was intimate and friendly. I never thought I would go to a concentration camp in my lifetime, but this is definitely something everyone needs to do.

I know you can do this trip on your own from Munich, but I dont regret doing this tour with a guide and with Viator. Our Tour guide was so knowledgeable and insightful. Made sure we got on the right train and bus to Dachau. When we arrived he was wonderful about making sure we had time to take it all in on our own, but took the time to explain what we were seeing and the atrocities of the events that took place here. The history of why this place was built, what the initial purpose was and what it evolved into. There were time I was so overwhelmed with emotions I needed to step away. I thought I knew alot about WWII history and the rise in Nazis in Germany and in Europe, but wow did I learn alot more. I would not hesitate to take this 1/2 day tour. It is a must do on a trip to Munich. History is our knowledge to power and how we learn to never allow anything like this to ever happen again. Great guide, great tour.

Small group tour of Dachau

Alun met us at the meeting point exactly as expected. Even though we took public transportation, our tour group was small (8 people) so it was no problem at all. Alun was very friendly, and very knowledgeable about Dachau, and we would never have learned all we did by walking around ourselves.

Thanks a million for taking time to review. Yes, striking that balance between guided and free time is key to getting this tour right I feel. Typically, my portion of the tour takes 2hrs with an hour in the museum to finish the trip. Of course further research is a great way to move forward.

The tour guide did an excellent job of explaining the story of Dachau; what led up to its creation, its own transformation through the years of its existence and the aftermath of its demise. He did all this without sounding like a history professor but rather someone who is passionate about sharing something that is important to us all.

An eye opening experience

It was an eye opening experience. We had a clearer and better understanding of the history. Alun did a good job in explaining and providing information to our group. We can imagine the condition of the prisoners from the way he explained of the place. The group is small, hence, better interaction with Alun. Highly recommended to join his group.

First time visiting a concentration camp, approached with a little dread because of the horrific history, but also felt like a necessary tour. Alun is a fantastic tour guide, easy to find at the meeting place then taking us on the subway to Dachau and bus to the site. It's a bit of a zoo at Dachau station with so many other tourists and groups and even school field trips but Alun did an amazing job keeping us all together and moving. He also did an amazing job at the camp. He told us lots of stories at numerous places we stopped along the walking tour, treating the horrific subject matter with dignity while giving us the details. Alun is a nice guy, articulate and easy to understand, and also provided us free time to walk through the museum. I saw some of the other tours were kind of big - small group with Alun is the way to go.
