Overview

Travel from Munich to Bavaria’s Neuschwanstein Castle on this day trip that includes round-trip transportation by train. Often known as Germany’s "Cinderella castle," Neuschwanstein was actually the inspiration for a different Disney story, the ‘Sleeping Beauty’ castle at Disneyland. Take a guided tour of the castle, and hear stories about the "Mad" King Ludwig II, who commissioned it. The entrance fee is not included, but skip-the-line access is, so you won’t wait in the main admission queue.
  • Neuschwanstein Castle day tour from Munich
  • Take a guided tour of Neuschwanstein Castle, the model for Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle
  • Enjoy skip-the-line access to the castle
  • Admire views of the lake, waterfall gorge, and Hohenschwangau Castle
  • Round-trip train ride to Fussen from Munich included
  • Small-group tour with max 15 people

Why Travelers Choose This Tour

Skip-the-line Neuschwanstein Castle entry is prebooked on this day trip, so you have more time to explore.
Your day trip to Neuschwanstein Castle starts with the train or bus journey from Munich through the German countryside. The entrance fee to the castle is not included (you can pay on the day), but by booking this tour in advance, you receive skip-the-line access to Neuschwanstein so you won’t waste time standing in the ticket queue.

Once inside the enchanting structure, take a tour with a guide, who shares fascinating stories about the reclusive Bavarian king who commissioned a new residence in the 19th century. Thought to be mad, King Ludwig II desired a fantasy castle built in the mountains, an obsessive feat that was still incomplete when he died. Visit the best vantage points for views and photo ops of the castle’s towers, interiors and surrounding scenery such as the lake, gorge and equally beautiful Hohenschwangau Castle.

Your tour ends with the ride back to Munich. Offering great views, the trains are clean, comfortable, and equipped with washrooms. You may walk around to talk with your fellow travelers and your guide, who can answer any questions you may have about Munich and Bavaria.

Well-organised highly recommended trip

Very well organised trip as a summary. A nice train ride to the location, info and discussions on the route. Our guide, Anna, was super lovely. She was talkative, informative and highly knowledgeable of the history and even the latest researches. It was nice to listen to her lections/stories with perfect English. The trip was sequenced nicely. Free time to wander and to gather around for info was just right. We got excellent insight historical tips not found in books of the extraordinary king Ludwig II and his ambitious intentions. A perfect day in a small group of 10 people. The guide could not enter to the castle itself, but the audioguide and COVID-19 arrangement at the castle were as good as they could be. Thanks, Viator - again - and especially thanks to Anna.

Would not do this tour again. Tour guide seemed bored and didn’t have any new information from my travel book purchased prior to my trip. He mainly made sure we got on our trains and got us our tickets. Very disappointed!

Long ride, our guide was very good, interesting & provided lots of information. The castle tour itself is short and not detailed. If you want to see this memorable sight you don’t have a choice. We liked it but there are other good ways to spend a day. Our day was cold and rainy but we still liked it.

We agree, you don´t have a choice but picking our tour to have a great experience at Neuschwanstein! :) Sorry about the rain though! We are happy to host you again when the sun is out!

Schloss Neuschwanstein tour

Our tour guide Dan was incredibly personable, knowledgeable and kind. It was raining and cold on our tour date but still had an amazing time and we’re able to do the inside castle tour without much of a wait. When signing up for organized group tours, we’ve learned to roll with whatever unexpected events come up, weather included. We had the opportunity to see Neuschwanstein castle up close and inside who was exactly what we wanted for this tour. Our guide and tour group were lovely so that was a bonus.

Lisa, thank you very much for taking the time to post this review of the Neuschwanstein Tour ! Sorry for all the rain :) But Dan seems to have made the day!

Great Day Out

We had a great tour with Jax as our guide. It was a long day but fully worth it. The kids loved it and the history was fascinating. Jax was funny and well informed; great guy. It was lightly trafficked due to winter so less crowding and snow covered mountains were great.

Long day but worth it, thanks for the kind words. Yes, it takes it´s time to get to Neuschwanstein, but I am happy to hear that Jax made the day fly by!

Wonderful Adventure

I was most concerned about spending an entire day on this adventure when I only had a bit more than 2 days in Munich. But happy to say it was really nice. The train ride through Bavaria is beautiful. Mountains in the background. Jova is a great tour guide. He really added fun and interest. The castle itself is worth it. Highly recommend this trip.

Overprice for the quality of the prestation

Basically, you overpay for a train and a bus ticket to go to the Castle. The guide is really nice when you hear him. You have to stay close to him on the train to get to know more about bavarian culture. It is not always possible as the « small » group was formed by more than 40 people. On our way back, there was no sitting place on the train...which was very disappointing as we were really tired. Anyway, we should have go there by ourselves. We paid 15 euros for the castle ticket to the company for a ticket that cost 12 (as written on the ticket).
