Neuschwanstein Castle Small-Group Day Tour from Munich

Neuschwanstein Castle Small-Group Day Tour from Munich

Your day trip to Neuschwanstein Castle starts with the approximate 2-hour train journey from Munich through the German countryside. The entrance fee to the castle is not included (you can pay on the day), but by booking this tour in advance, you’ll receive skip-the-line access to Neuschwanstein so you won’t waste time standing in the ticket queue.

Once inside the enchanting structure, take a tour with a guide, who shares fascinating stories about the reclusive Bavarian king who commissioned a new residence in the 19th century. Thought to be mad, King Ludwig II desired a fantasy castle built in the mountains, an obsessive feat that was still incomplete when he died. Visit the best vantage points for views and photo ops of the castle’s towers, interiors and surrounding scenery such as the lake, gorge and equally beautiful Hohenschwangau Castle.

Your tour ends with the 2-hour ride back to Munich. Offering great views, the trains are clean, comfortable and equipped with washrooms. You may walk around to talk with your fellow travelers and your guide, who can answer any questions you may have about Munich and Bavaria.

Our tour guide was a riot. I'm so happy that we had Austin as our guide. He was cracking jokes and making the history of the tour interesting. The 2hr train ride had great views of the Alps. Bring cash for lunch at the restaurant that specializing in cholesterol. Wear comfortable shoes that can get wet, unless you're going in summer. Don't expect to take pictures inside the castle. Bring earbuds to listen to the tour inside.

This tour made the visit to Neuschwanstein very easy! Our guide Keith was very knowledgable with a great sense of humor although you are given a separate guide to tour the castle. Highly recommend this tour.

This trip includes a train from Munich to Füssen, a bus from Füssen to Schwangau, head-of-the-line tickets at the castle, and a knowledgeable tour guide. It's pretty much a full day, but I would definitely recommend it. The guide on my tour, Austin, was the sort of tour guide who loves his work, is interested in what he's showing you, and loves sharing knowledge with others. He not only provided background information on the life of King Ludwig II, but he also explained everything we saw and gave us the historical context necessary to understand the genius and tragedy of the so-called Mad King. On the way back, he went around to each person on the tour group and answered any questions we had and gave us recommendations on dinner and lodgings in Munich.

This was amazing! Keith made the entire experience so entertaining, and gave excellent instruction. For anyone who goes in the winter, wear boots because you have to walk in the snow. Very much worth the trip! Great experience and BEAUTIFUL!

This tour was brilliant. The tour guide I forgot the ladys name was very friendly and informative the only thing I would say is that she wore a bright coloured hat as this is what we had to look for and there were quite a few people with the same dark hat as hers. The castle was great and walking on the bridge was something else, the bridge is made from wooden planks that flex at an alarming rate and for some one like me a bit scary but well worth the view. The story of the castle was a bit sad but interesting. Amazing views and the shops, cafes and hotel at the bottom were very quaint. Would definatley recommend.

Simply awesome :) thanks Petra for the wonderful tour and detailed info of King Ludwig prior to visiting the castle. It snowed in pretty hard so the walk up to the castle was a little challenging but totally worth it 5/5 stars!!

A brilliant tour! A very long day but worth it to see an amazing castle. Worth outlining that if it is snowing or likely to be, wear some decent shoes some of our group didn't as if the bus isnt running you'll have a 30 minute walk to the castle totally worth it! Our guide Petra had a great grasp of English and had a great insight into the history of the monarchy and the castle and provided pictures and information whilst on the train journey to Fussen. Well recommended tour.
