What You Can Expect

Romantic Road, Rothenburg and Harburg Day Tour from Munich

Rothenburg, Germany

Your first stop is Harburg, one of the oldest, largest and best preserved castles of Southern Germany. It was an important military stronghold during the 11th and 12th centuries. Through the Swabian crater landscape passing Dinkelsbuhl, you will arrive in Rothenburg, the most perfectly preserved medieval town in Europe. You will spend about 3 hours in Rothenburg, so there is plenty of time for sightseeing, lunch and shopping.

A popular attraction is the Kathe Wolhfahrt Christmas Store on Herrngasse, a large store open year round where you can purchase ornaments, nutcrackers, and other Christmas items. Many of the highlights in Rothenburg are centered around Marktplatz, such as the Town Hall with its Rothenburg History Museum, and St Jakob's Church, a Gothic building with soaring ceilings filled with light.

You will return to Munich via the Hallertau, the world's largest hop-growing area.

Great comfortable bus day trip with excellent informative commentary provided by our guide Holger during our travels. Guided tour of Hamburg Fortress very worthwhile and gave great insight into the past. Visiting Rothenburg was like stepping into the pages of a storybook with its quaint stone and wooden houses, narrow cobblestone streets and surrounding thick stone wall. Easy to fill three hours spent there and would have enjoyed more. There is a lot of bus travelling on this day trip but very enjoyable seeing the passing landscapes and towns on travels up the Romantic Road. A great way to see this beautiful part of Barvaria especially if your time in the area is limited.

My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed this day trip! Our guide was great and very thorough. I had been to Rothenburg before, but not through Viator, so this was a much smoother and convenient experience the beers for purchase on the bus were a great touch, too!. Harburg was very interesting to visit, as well, and a very different experience from the typical royal castles and palaces you're used to visiting in Germany. I would definitely recommend this tour for anyone - Rothenburg is absolutely beautiful and one of my favorite places in all of Germany!!

The tour guide was the best we have every had. She was knowledgeable and had a lot of interesting and sometimes funny stories. She gave good advice about places to shop and eat, and where to go for the best photo opportunities. She explained the trip plan well, and answered all our questions. She was very friendly. The bus air conditioning was a life saver.

Found Harburg Castle very interesting and great place for photos. LOVED Rothenburg. Strolled around the beautiful town, had delicious lunch, and did quite a bit of shopping. Long but very enjoyable day!

Perfect day. Visit to Harburg Castle was much better than I expected. There were no crowds and the time we spent there was just right. Rothenburg is too perfect for words. Again, the time we spent there was just right. It's quite a long journey but the coach was comfortable and drinks are available. Very much recommend this trip
