This tour is not so much a Sound of Music tour, but when you're walking around Salzburg, you'll recognize a lot of locations that were settings for scenes in the movie. Lots of free time in Salzburg to walk around without the group, and really enjoyed the boat tour on Lake Wolfgang.
Glad to have seen Salzburg but we did not see much Sound of Music stuff, and nothing of the Lakes at all. The guide said you don't go there in the winter, which should have been made clear on booking. We were held up for a long time by an accident on the autobahn which shortened the time available for exploring the city. The guide made a very determined and competent effort to give her commentary in both Spanish and English but a single language would have been preferable for all. Presumably numbers were not sufficient.
This tour was awesome. The tour guide Ursula was very professional and made the tour even more interesting.
Excellent tour guide young funny Paolo made trip a joy, in the dessert itself everyone was extremely hospitable food beverage services were plentiful and very organized
Awesome and mesmerizing once you are on top in the fort. The entire Salzburg town and surrounding Bravarian alps an be seen in 360 degree.Given that it was chilly and mildly raining, it added to the mystical feeling on the top of the fort.
Bus was fantastic left on time, so was the guide tiny lady but with tons of historical information that she narrated flawlessly in three languages.
In Salzburg village best way to use WC is to but Startbucks coffee for 2, you will also get a password to use their WC.
We did not do the Sound of Music tour.
Katharina, our tiny tour guide, was in charge of 72 of us, in a double-decker coach with big windows. Munich was in the midst of the refugee situation which affected the city in early September, 2015 so our coach was caught in a traffic-jam but Katharina kept us entertained with information about what we were going to see along the way to Salzburg. Katharina took us on a rapid tour through Salzburg, then left us, breathless, in a small square with the oldest restaurant in Germany. Some toured the town via horse-drawn carriage, some spent their free time in a café or pub, while others trekked around the castle at the top of the hill.
Next came the Wolfgang See Lake visit where we were taken to two islands and given ample time to explore them. The ferry rides were also most enjoyable, Unfortunately on the long journey back to Munich, we got caught in another traffic-jam so many people napped for the 3-hour return leg, arriving back feeling refreshed and ready for dinner.
Really good trip. The guide was so good. Even though there was traffic congestion on the way, the driver and guide made sure, we didn't loose any time. Highly recommended.
German efficiency at its finest - and we have two examples. We had 4 people kicked off the bus before we left Munich for forgetting their passports. This is not a suggestion, so they were excused from the tour so they didn't hold up the rest of our group. Then, we had a firm departure time from Salzburg after 3 hours of leisure time, and another 5 people missed it. We waited 5 additional minutes for them, before departing Salzburg and leaving them behind so as not to delay the rest of the tour. While brutal that some of our tourmates were left in the dust, it was respectful to the rest of the groups time and ability to follow the rules. We do wish that we could have had more time in Salzburg, as 3 hours isn't enough time to really see or do much of anything. Like many of the reviews here, the Lake District / Lake Wolfgangsee and the boat cruise were a highlight of this day trip. SO beautiful getting to experience the gorgeous Austrian alps and soak in our surroundings. We loved having some to explore the Alps town on our own. I would definitely recommend this tour - a highlight of our whole vacation!
This tour was amazing! A lot of time spent on a bus but it was worth it. The boat tour of Lake Wolfgangsee was breathtaking. Would recommend to anyone.
Really good tour , Salzburg is lovely and we enjoyed the boat trip in the afternoon. Lucy the guide was lovely and very informative.
We LOVED the Sound of Music tour! Our tour guide was really fantastic... very knowledgable. The busses are so lovely with a bathroom and drinks for sale - it is definitely the way to travel.

Great tour and fabulous guide. She was funny and really knew the area.
A rainy day, but still a joyful tour. Ursula, our guide, made the tour a treat, in spite of the weather. My wife is a huge fan of the movie, so it was right in her wheelhouse. For me, it was a treat to learn more about the history of this area in Germany.
This tour was the absolute highlight of our visit to Bavaria! Salzburg is lovely and the Lake District and surrounding areas are just STUNNING! We were quite fortunate in having Carolina as our guide for her clear depth of knowledge about the history of the region. Upon arriving in Salzburg, we were given a brief tour with Carolina pointing out the sights of most significance and some shopping tips before we were sent on our way to explore on our own. Then we were off to Lake Wolfgang for a boat ride across the lake. My single regret is not having more time! This tour is a MUST! Thank you, Carolina, and Nero, our coach driver, for an amazing experience!
Carolina provided lots of history and information including Bavarian and Salzburg

The tour was excellent,After you get to tour the city walking on your own,is not very big at least the downtown historic area We went on a boat tour on the Wolfgangsee Lake it was beautiful, the views and towns were very picturesque. Great Trip overall
Salzburg tour was really great, wonderful town, beautiful vistas and tour to Saint Wolfgang town and boat on the lake were a bonus. Tour guide was really knowledgeable with a good dose of humour.
This was an amazing tour of Salzburg. Our guide Ursula was awesome and explained everything very well and easy to understand. Salzburg is a very nice quaint town with lots of history to it. We had time to walk around the town on our own after our guide explained some of the important things to see. The bus ride was very relaxing and the scenery was gorgeous. We were able to see where some of the Sound of Music was filmed. We had a wonderful boat ride on the lake which was very nice. The bus ride back to Munich was very nice with the scenery plus they played the movie Sound of Music. I highly recommend this trip.
