Absolutely amazing! Pompeii is a must! And mount vesuvius has breathtaking views. I highly recommend this trip.
Well organised, very interesting and educational. Our guides and drivers were excellent and very knowledgeable. Pompeii is fascinating and a hugely popular visitor attraction so was very busy but we still saw and learned a great deal. Lunch was at a family run restaurant recommended by the guides - the food was freshly cooked and tasty. Our guide told us many interesting facts on the minibus journey to Mount Vesuvius and the walk up to the summit was well worth the effort although it was steep - the views from the top across the whole of the bay of Naples were amazing. Really enjoyable day.
Maria was an awesome host, the Vezuvio is much colder than what we expected it to be really, even when the weather was 15 degrees in the city, it was below freezing up there, and the Pompeii tour was simply breathtaking!
This is magnificent. You do need to be fairly fit though to walk to the top, so take that in mind - its pretty steep and loose rocks make it a bit tricky if your not steady on your feet. I loved it and the view from the top is breathtaking. Highly recommend this tour option.
The tour was very well organized. The bus was on time and we were welcomed by very friendly tour guides. The bus drove us very safely to Pompeii and there we received a headset so we could hear the tour guide even if we were not directly in visible range or her. The guide was very informative and learned us a lot about the history in around two hours.
Afterwards, we had lunch at a restaurant which was quite okay, but nothing special. Next, we got back on the bus and drove up the Vesuvius. There we had about one hour and fifteen minutes to hike up approx 20mins is you have a good physical condition. At the top, there are gorgeous views of Napoli, Pompeii and of course the crater of the volcano. There are some shops to get souvenirs or a glass of local wine.
After the hike down the bus was waiting for us and drove us back to Napoli. All in all a very good day and totally worth the money, because everything fits together. It would be nearly impossible to see both sites in one day with public transport.
Brilliant day. Very informative English speaking guides. Pompeii is fascinating. We had a nice lunch pizza or pasta. Then on to Mt Vesuvius. Views from the top were spectacular. Well worth the money. Highly recommend
We were only visiting Naples for a few days and therefore being able to see Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius in one day was a fantastic option and reasonable value via Viator given all that was included. Booking online was very straightforward and email confirmation was immediate. Once we arrived in Italy I called the company to check where we'd be picked up, since our hotel was in the historic district on a narrow street. The woman who I spoke with was very helpful, spoke excellent English and gave me very clear instructions as to where and when we would be picked up - just a 5 minute walk away from our hotel. We were picked up exactly on time and the bus was extremely comfortable and air conditioned!. There was just one more stop - at Naples central station - before we headed off to Pompeii. Our guide on the bus I forget her name! was excellent, talking to us throughout the journey in English, Spanish and French to explain what we were seeing as we travelled to Pompeii and also to explain what to expect once we got there.
On arrival at Pompeii we were shown to our meeting point where we were collected by our tour guide, Maria. We were each given radios and earpieces so that we could still hear our guide even if we were some way away. It was November but the tour group was still quite large - probably around 30 people. I imagine it is a much larger group during high season.
Pompeii was incredible. I could have spent days there, and we only had two hours. But I really felt we had a fantastic experience, primarily because Maria added so much context to everything we saw. I could have explored more freely but I would never have known what I was really looking at. Maria explained everything wonderfully, and even had a little book with images so that we could see what the ruins might have looked like in 79 A.D. Best of all, when we visited the little theatre, she asked for a volunteer singer to demonstrate the acoustic some clever method the Romans cooked up using terracotta underneath the stage - and so by volunteering I got the once in a lifetime experience of singing in the theatre in the ruins of Pompeii. Just incredible. But the entire tour was fantastic - I learned so much, I really appreciated what I was seeing even though we only saw a small part - apparently it would take 2 days and 2 nights to walk around the whole city and I can't speak highly enough of the experience. Absolutely amazing.
After the tour we were taken to a nearby restaurant. Other reviewers have commented on the slow service I have to say that the service we experienced was incredibly quick and efficient. Within 5 minutes of sitting down we were brought drinks and within 10 minutes our pizzas were on the table. There was no choice - everyone was served a margherita pizza - but in the interest of time this makes sense. The pizza itself wasn't at all bad - a bit oily but very acceptable. A drink was also included soft or alcoholic.
Then we were off to Vesuvius! The bus takes you up much of the way, during which time our guide the first lady whose name I forget talked us through the sights we were seeing - including the scorched trees so sadly damaged by recent man-made fires - and you are left to yourself to climb from the drop-off point. Which makes sense since everyone climbs at their own pace and not everyone would want to go all the way to the top. This is a tough climb, not only because it is steep but also because the track is quite slippery from all the dust and rocks. Good walking shoes are recommended as well as hiking sticks!
This was the only slight negative about the day, in that we had one hour and 15 mins to get up and down the mountain. To get all the way to the top takes perhaps 45 minutes, more if you stop along the way to rest or take photos. By the time you're up there you have very little time to get back down again or to stop at the shops en route. It does feel quite rushed - I guess this is just the problem with doing two significant sights in one day!. While my friend did make it to the top she had to jog down the mountain to make the return bus. I got partway up then decided to head back down - I got some lovely views of the Bay of Naples and relaxed with a glass of wine made from Vesuvius grapes!
We were then taken back to our starting points by the driver. This was very straightforward and we were dropped back at the place we were picked up.
Did this trip back in June. We really enjoyed the tour. Lunch was included and was excellent.
Vesuvius part was cancelled so we spent more time at sorrento, was fabulous
All round excellent - well organised and a great tour leader
The Pompeii guide was very good and friendly, lunch was very good. Pompeii itself was amazing. Climbing Vesuvius was quite a hike but worth it.
Excellent tours, and guides were very knowledgeable, and answered all the questions ecellently.
Good guide at Pompeii Very informative Whole tour well organised
Good guide in Pompeii and nice walk up to the crater of V. It was a pity that the weather was very foggy and we couldn't see Naples, but the hike was worthwhile the trip.
My family of 3 highly recommends this trip for anyone looking to take in Mt. Vesuvius and Pompeii in a day. The tour organizer was very well prepared and ready for the unexpected. In our case the unexpected was the mountain having just reopened after the devastating fires that raged a few days before.
The mountain trip was a self-led hike to the top. The views of Naples and surrounding areas were spectacular. The tour of Pompeii was perfect and the guide did a great job giving us the historical run-down.
A must for every history aficionados!! Be prepare for some good cardio workout climbing the Mt. Vesuvius!!
