The tour was well organised our guide very informative and knowledgeable. The bus driver was very careful amongst erratic traffic.
Pompeii was a huge place with lots of walking at times on uneven ground, wear flat comfortable shoes sunscreen and hat, take water. Toilets and washrooms were very crowded, had to line up, very inadequate for the amount of visitors.
Pompeii was very thought provoking about how the people and animals lost their lives in such a devastating event, in a very advanced civilisation.
Our guide told many interesting stories, and we would recommend a visit to this site.
Naples is a very cosmopolitan crowded city lovely food and good coffee.
Fantastic tour! Elisa was wonderful, informative, charming, fluent in English and Spanish. She gave us a wealth of information on both of these tours. The Naples tour was first and then we drove to Pompeii. It was fantastic! We were done around 2:30 pm and the bus driver from the tour bus was kind enough to drop my husband and I back near the port so we could eat authentic Naples pizza before getting onto the ship.
The guide was very knowledgeable and a good communicator. I have a recommended tour because you can see everything you want to see. The half day tour was the perfect amount of time. 6 hours
Once again, very good trip. The tour company is amazing. They waited for people and still tried to remain on schedule. Guide was once again very informative and knowledgeable. This is important because you want to get the history right. Very good tour company. I will book this tour company again.
Great tour! Excellent guide Eliza!!! Very knowledgeable and a great presenter! We had a lot of fun and saw amazing places!!
This tour was enjoyable. We were given a lot of information in Pompeii. The half day was long enough for a family with children. We were pleased that we had not booked a full day tour after the long walk around Pompeii in the heat !
We traveled to the Mediterranean the week of the Barcelona attacks on a Royal Caribbean Cruise. Though the ship did not address the attacks at all nor offered passengers any help or guidance on 8/17 or 8/18, all other companies we booked with were very accommodating including the excursion to Naples/Pompeii via Viator. We were scheduled to take an 8 AM excursion from the Naples Port on 8/18 but since we were scrambling to jump ship and book alternate plans to avoid returning to Barcelona that night, we were unable to keep our tour reservation. Due to the nature of this event and the fact that we were at see, I was unable to contact Viator until sometime in the middle of the night before our 8 AM tour. The local service was very kind and accommodating and we were lucky that they were able to change our reservation to the next day instead picking us up from our hotel. It was a relief!
The local company reached out to us via email and phone to confirm our date change, location and pick up time. Pick up was as scheduled in front of our hotel in a passenger van that held about 15 people. The vehicle was clean, temperature controlled and comfortable. Our tour guide Elisa spoke great English, was witty and easy to listen to.
The Naples tour hit the high spots stopping first at Cattedrale di San Gennaro, the main church of Napes and the seat of the Archbishop of Naples. Other stops included Piazza del Plebiscito and drive-bys of major sights like the Naples National Archaeological Museum, shopping districts, Castel dell'Ovo and the Royal Palace of Naples. Our final stop was Caffè Gambrinus for great pasties and coffee before boarding the van again for our final stop.
A 30 minute ride with commentary brought us to Pompeii. We met up and combined with a much larger group and all were given headsets since there are many tours going on at the same time and the group was large. It was very helpful while touring. Before we entered the site, we had an opportunity to shop local vendors for waters a must!, hats for shade, a snack gelato! lemonade! or souvenirs. There is a public bathroom here as well. Elisa, our guide, easily led us through the turn styles and into the ruins after securing all tickets.
Pompeii is a must see. The ruins are an amazing look back to a civilization founded in 6th-7th century BC preserved by volcanic ash in 79 AD. Our tour was half-day and in the heat, that was a great amount of time but only because we had a great tour guide. To walk the grounds alone without knowledge of what you are seeing is to miss the point. Don't make that mistake!
Travel back to our hotel was not as smooth as the start because we boarded much larger busses that had many varied stops along the way including a bus switch in the center of Naples. It seemed to be a bit of a mix up actually as the drop off points were inefficient. Still, it was maybe only 20 minutes too long and not a huge deal at all. We were deposited safely in front of our hotel in enough time to have lunch before all restaurants closed for the afternoon! All was well!
I should note that if I had booked via our ship, I would NOT have had the opportunity to reschedule and the prepaid money would have been lost. Booking with an outside company was for sure to our benefit in this case. Not to mention, for a family of 4, booking through Viator saved us easily 300 over the Royal Caribbean price for a similar tour.
I would use Viator again for sure. Don't hesitate!!
Good tour and great guide.
This tour exceeded expectations! Very interesting and enjoyable in spite of the heat that day.Should not be missed!
Unfortunately we had an issue with disembarkation and the city tour left without us :
The trip to Pompeii was wonderful and our guide was so great..I'm afraid I forgot to note her name. It was blazingly hot at Pompeii but she gave us chances at shade and moved at a pace that was doable in the heat. She was so knowledgeable and interesting to listen to. At the end, they swung us by a nice overview of Naples, which doesn't quiet make up for missing the city tour in the morning, but was nice.
