What You Can Expect

Pompeii and Amalfi Coast Day Trip from Naples

Enjoy the view of Mont Vesuvius!

Begin your day trip with pickup from your central Naples hotel. Meet your expert guide and hop aboard your luxury coach.

Head first to the archaeological site of Pompeii, the ancient city that lay buried under volcanic ash for centuries following Mount Vesuvius’ eruption in 79 AD. Enter the site at your own expense and learn the history behind that fateful day. Pass the ruins of the Forum, the Temple of Venus, the Thermal Baths and more.

Afterward, take a ride to a prominent cameo and corals factory. The family-run business specializes in the ancient Neapolitan tradition of carved coral jewelry. Get a behind-the-scenes look at the production process and then stroll the short distance to Ristorante Vesuvio for lunch, a local establishment dating back to the 18th century.

Appetites sated, travel north along the scenic roads of the Amalfi Coast, passing pastel-colored towns and the turquoise waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Stop to visit a traditional ceramic workshop before heading to the town of Amalfi.

There, enjoy some free time to explore the streets or cool off with a gelato. Your tour will conclude afterward with transportation back to Naples.

We had a wonderful day visiting Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. Our guides were great and very informative. The only comments I would share is that the beginning of the tour was very disorganized. There were too many people and they were trying to organize them to 3 different tours. It took 2 hours before we were on our way. Also, the bus driver on the coast, while driving, was answering his phone too much on the very narrow road with MANY hairpin turns!. He seemed upset and drove way too fast. It was a bit unsettling... other than that the tour was very good!

This was a highlight of our Naples trip. Viator knows how to do a tour!!!! We started the day by meeting at Snack Bar Molo Beverello at the cruise ship port which was very convenient to our hotel. We boarded a small bus with our guide and bus driver Francisco what a great guy. Our first stop was Pompeii which I enjoyed even though it was so crowded and the other guests were pushy and rude. Our guide was great, so informative and available to answer questions sorry wish I remembered her name. After about 2 hours at Pompeii, we stopped for lunch at Hotel Vesuvio, which was delicious. We had a choice of salad, pizza and dessert or a 3 course dinner that was a huge amount of food and quite good. The pizza was excellent but if I was to return I would take the meal. From lunch, we boarded a large, comfortable bus and headed south. It was good to sit and chill after the 3 mile walk at Pompeii. First stop, Sorrento and its Limoncello di Capri factory for a well several free tastings of Limoncello. The view was magnifico. We made stops at Positano and Amalfi as well as a ceramic shop in Conca dei Marini for souvenirs. The Amalfi stop is right at a great little beach and we couldn't resist putting our feet in the water. Our guide Sara was great. She speaks at least 3 languages and did a great job with the Spanish and English translations. Her descriptions and explanations of the culture and sights was engaging and fun. This tour is the perfect combination of walking and relaxation.

We took this tour on 9/24. Sara met us at the meeting point with way too much energy for 8am! We were also blessed to have her as our coordinator for the rest of the day. After a bus fiasco - our assigned driver backed out at the last minute - Genaro drove the group to Pompeii. A professional guide took over the walking tour from there, pointing out the sites. Lunch afterwards was good, and then onto Amalfi.

The ride was nail-biting through the tight turns and narrow streets, but Genaro controlled the bus like it was a Smart car through them all. We got into Amalfi and Sara arranged a private boat tour for some in our group to view the coast from the water. Stopped off for drinks with Sophia Loren at her villa. It was an unforgettable experience! OK, that last part isn't true, but it was still a great time. Sara's energy and bubbly personality lasted until we were dropped off. I don't know too many people who can be that happy for 12 hours. We highly recommend this tour.
