What You Can Expect

Day Trip to Taj Mahal and Mehtab Bagh and Agra Fort from Delhi

Taj Mahal Agra, India

Get picked up from the Delhi airport or from your hotel in the early morning and transfer for three hours by private vehicle to Agra. You’ll arrive in Agra and meet your guide for the day around 9am.

Kick things off with a visit to the world-famous Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage site built as a mausoleum by the Mughal ruler Shah Jahan. Learn more about the love story between Jahan and his deceased wife Mumtaz Mahal, as you explore the intricate white marble architecture of this iconic site. Leave the Taj Mahal around noon and cross the river to visit the Mehtab Bagh (The Moonlight Garden), a beautiful green space that serves as the perfect complement to this famous landmark. The site’s 3,200 square-foot (300 square-meter) park is perfectly aligned with its companion landmark on the opposite river bank, along with a striking reflection of the Taj in the shimmering waters of the Yamuna.

Take a break at 1pm for an included buffet lunch, then continue at 2pm to the Agra Fort, another UNESCO World Heritage site. Admire the fort’s imposing red sandstone walls as you learn about its construction by Emperor Akbar in 1565 AD. You’ll also have time to explore the fort’s mosques, private chambers, and courtyards as you learn about the complex’s unique mix of Central Asian and Hindu architecture.

At 4pm head into Agra for a souvenir shopping trip. This historic city is known for its rich tradition of handicrafts, including leather-ware, jewelry, embroidery, carpets, and brass objects. Once you pick out the perfect item, you’ll return to Delhi by private vehicle at 6pm, arriving back at the airport or your hotel by 9pm.
