Depart your central Delhi hotel and make the roughly 4-hour journey to Agra by private, air-conditioned vehicle.
On arrival, meet your guide at the UNESCO-listed Taj Mahal, one of the new Seven Wonders of the World, and head inside to admire this extraordinary monument to love.
Stroll around with your guide, and learn how the Taj was built between 1631 and 1648 by the Emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his beloved wife. Inspect the intricately carved and inlaid white marble façade, and take photos from the gardens to capture it shimmering in the sunlight.
Next, continue to Agra Fort, a UNESCO-protected, 16th-century palace-fortress on the River Yamuna built by the Emperor Akbar. Tour this imperious complex, seeing its courtyards and pavilions, and the tower where Shah Jahan was imprisoned in sight of the Taj.
Then, visit the Itmad-ud-Daulah or ‘Baby Taj:’ an exquisite mausoleum built for one of Shah Jahan’s ministers. Learn about its history, and continue to Mehtab Bagh, a series of ornamental gardens on the Yamuna’s eastern banks that command breathtaking views of the Taj proper.
Finally, enjoy time to browse Agra’s shops for souvenirs before your tour ends at the original start point in Delhi.
