Great Experience

Both tours were great. Evelyn expertly navigated history that can be challenging to present at the plantation. She told the story of the plantation with accuracy and empathy all while being interesting and along a good time frame. The fan boat ride was a blast! My wife had never been on one and she loved it! Our driver was a wealth of knowledge, citing a love of the area that he had developed throughout his life as a local and an appreciation for the conservation of the area.

The best tour in the New Orleans area

What a fantastic day. The visit to the plantation was very moving, our guide was very knowledgeable and was able to answer all questions. The guided tour of the house was informative and free time was available to explore the grounds and other buildings at the plantation. The Airboat experience was breath-taking! Our captain had vast experience of working with the wildlife in the swamp area and was able to take the boat right up to the alligators that freely swam within feet of the vessel. The photos taken are evidence of how close they were. We saw lots of birds and fish in their natural habit. I thought 1 hour 40 mins on the swamp would be too long but it wasn't enough!

This was a great tour for everyone. Plantation was interesting with a good tour of the main house and an interesting story of the revolt. Could use more time to wander the grounds in your own. This plantation is not the most developed but it was great learning experience for us. The airboat is the way to go. Lots of fun on the swamp tour. Dewey was lots of fun and a quick talker with lots of info.

As an African American I have never been to a plantation before, so to actually see how my ancestors contributed to the fabric of this nation gave me a greater respect of the strength and faith they had. The swamp tour was fantastic, I wish I would have chosen a warmer time but our tour guide was amazing. He explained everything and found our group some gators. I highly recommend this tour.

Absolutely fantastic tours! The plantation tour was super educational with much to look at and ponder. The large airboat was a blast and was not too wild. We had a fantastic tour guide who was very knowledgeable about the alligators. We saw lots of gators! Make sure you bring cash to tip!

I would not do it again or recommend. It would be better to drive yourself and pay the prices the day of. Huge markup for these tours. No time for lunch AT all. Bad time management from the tour guide at the plantation so we missed the second tour. Overall not the greatest and lots of complaints.

I'm sorry about your experience. Due to the limited time frame, it is difficult for us to arrange a lunch time, so that's why we recommend that our guests bring something. Our snack shop at the swamp dock does offer some sandwiches as well. We do thank you for the feedback.

Due to booking, we weren't able to visit the Destrehan plantation but we were to upgrade and visit the Oak Alley plantation. What an AMAZING plantation with an interesting history. The grounds were beautiful. Great restaurant & snack shop available. Gift shop offered great samples.We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. The Airboat Swamp tour was OUTSTANDING!! Captain was HILARIOUS and very informative of the bayou history, commerce & the wildlife! You will NOT regret this tour!!

Worth your every buck! Let me tell you it was a very instructive, fun and overall very wonderful and forever-lasting experience. I went by myself and hope to come back with my family next year. Let me start with our bus driver: he picked everyone in the group at each hotel. Man, he is the BEST tour guy I've had in a long time. He knew the whole history, land, architecture, popular culture, entertainment world such as movies, etc. about Louisiana. He has been doing this for years now and worked in all kinds of jobs. He told us he is from Baton Rouge and has lived in New Orleans for some years now. You could really tell he loves his job and knows SOOO much. My only regret is I wish I had gotten his name to make sure I get him again whenever I visit Louisiana with my family in the future. Even though I didn't go to the Destrehan Plantation because I was the only person in this tour, I visited Oak Alley and I learned so much about how life in the plantations were for these plantation owners and their slaves. The Swamp Tour was amazing! It lasted a long time (very much worth your every dollar) and we went deep into the marshlands, saw all kinds of animal life. We could pet wild alligators if we wanted to and felt comfortable with it. Our tour guy was funny, friendly and would tell all these crazy stories about his life there in the swamps in Louisiana. He was very knowledgeable about Louisiana swamp life as he grew up in that environment.

Both tours were awesome. Plantation big house tour was the only part guided, and our tour guide had so much knowledge. Swamp tour was amazing. Your guide was funny and also full of knowledge and explained different things throughout the tour. We enjoyed both locations as the guides were very knowledgeable in their fields. But we thoroughly enjoyed the airboat tour! Our guide Brad was excellent and he kept it real! He was laid back and was able to answer and explain all questions asked. Be sure to take the airboat tour even if you don't do the plantation! You won't regret it!

Plantation and Swamp boat Tour

Picked up from Hotel for the drive to the Desterhan Plantation. Our tour guide, Beverly, brought history alive with her knowledgeable and entertaining commentary. Another bus ride to the swamp boat tour where we were treated to an expert guide who whisked us expertly to see so many gators, birds even an owl. A very rewarding day and highly recommend.

Great Tour. The plantation tour was good informative and historical. The airboat tour was SO MUCH FUN! The airboat was a blast to ride in. I am so happy we did an airboat instead of a large boat. We probably would not have seen any alligators had we been on the large boat and we certainly would not have been able to go into the areas we did with the airboat. Our guide was very informative and personable.

Destrehan plantation is a beautiful place that has quite the history. The tour guides are very knowledgeable about this place that you could really picture yourself living in the era. Large airboat tour was great too. Captain Ernie knows everything about alligators you could possibly want to know. We saw several of them during our trip in early June. During the drive, the initial tour guide showed us different areas where Katrina had devastated the region back in 2005. Highly recommend this tour if you find yourself in the Big Easy.
