What You Can Expect

Houmas House Plantation Tour with Transportation

Extravagant Gardens at the Houmas House Plantation

Your journey back in time begins with pickup at the New Orleans Marriott in the French Quarter. Climb aboard the climate‐controlled coach and grab a comfortable seat for the 1‐hour ride to Houmas House Plantation, dubbed ‘The Sugar Palace’ due to its contribution to the sugar boom of the late 1800s, when more than 20 million pounds of sugar were produced here annually.

You are invited to use your 1.5 hours at the estate however you’d like. House tours are designated at appointed times, at which point you’ll meet your costumed guide at the mansion’s entrance. On the 1‐hour tour, immerse yourself in the story and splendor of the old South as your guide leads you through lavish and traditionally decorated rooms, speckled with artwork and antiques. Hear the architectural history of the home, a stronghold plantation estate, and see the room where Bette Davis stayed while filming the 1963 movie Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte

Spend your time before and after the house tour exploring the magnificent 38‐acre (15‐hectare) estate. Leisurely wind along manicure paths and through the exquisite gardens, find a quaint sitting nook for a rest, or head to one of the estate’s restaurants or café for a locally inspired lunch – and maybe a mint julep!

Your plantation tour ends with a drop‐off at your departure point in mid‐afternoon.

The tour was terrific. Great guides and driver.
Quality tour.
One challenge while checking in...the cashier wanted to charge me again for the tour. She didn't understand the 'voucher' meant I had a paid tour.

This is a lovely tour and a great way to spend an afternoon. The house and grounds are beautiful and there is a very nice restaurant on site. Our tour guide was well informed about the history of the area and the plantation itself. This is not a museum but a private residence.
