A great tour. You go to places you typically wouldn't know about unless you lived in New Orleans. Learned a lot about New Orleans history and enjoyed some great cocktails!

Bob was so much fun! The history insight was great, super interesting! It's about so much more than just the cocktails. Loved seeing all the private rooms in Antoine's used during Mardi Gras. It's like a museum in there. So much tradition it leaves you awed. Highly recommend this tour.

Brian with Greyline Tours was the bomb! You could tell he was fascinated with the history of the city and the cocktails. The Cocktails were absolutely delightful. Brian had wonderful stories, knew all the bartenders and the regulars in the bars, which made for a local feeling experience! I would happily take the tour again and again just to see what else I learn!

Joe was the best tour guide since he was born and raised here. He even knew some of the owner of the restaurants since childhood. Plenty of time to enjoy each establishment and order a drink if interested. My friend and I shared each drink so we can try them all!

Took this tour the day we arrived to get a lay of the French Quarter. Our guide, Brian was so much fun and very informative! Made about 5 stops and each one was different than the last. Started by the Natchez Dock and made stops at historical hotels and bars that each have their own speciality drinks. The Two Sisters, The Hotel Montelone, Antiones, and a few more great stops! This was a great tour with lots of gret information and great cocktails!

Brian was a great tour guide. Incredible presentation of the history associated with each of the drinking establishments we visited in addition to the origin of the cocktails that we sampled. Really enjoyed it!

NOLA History With a Twist

Visiting NOLA on a holiday weekend with both a big game and festival can bring out the best and worst in people. For us it was a much needed break from a tragic week of flooding. What should have been a six hour drive became a two day marathon. We had pre-booked the Original Cocktail Walking Tour for a Sunday afternoon. The tour is promoted as a walking history tour of the French Quarter with an emphasis on the history and origin of world famous cocktails. The check-in process was easy and we gathered with a large group of history seekers. Fortunately the group was divided in two and we would find out later that fate would match us with Joe Gendusa as our guide for the afternoon.

Joe, or Mister Joes as the bartenders called him is a fascinating man. He is a mature fellow but light on his feet and truly a cocktail historian. He is a retired educator and a true storyteller. His love for his city, and its history is obvious and contagious. I think he has been guiding this tour since its origins in 2002. Listen carefully for the origins of the words cocktail and Dixie.

My recommendation is, if possible, book your tour on a day that Mister Joe can lead your tour AND if you can get his book at Fleurty Girl or at the bar on the corner of Pirates alley.... he will proudly sign it for you.

The only downside is that you are only able to cover a limited number of bars in the available time and after reading his book, the adventure has just begun. The tour is beneficial for drinkers and non-drinkers and is probably the best history tour of the city for the money and if you are really lucky Mister Joe will be your guide.

Great fun, great cocktails and great tour guide. We learned so much about the history of New Orleans and the cocktails. The tour was well worth the cost, and we hope to do it again on our next visit to Mew Orleans.

We greatly enjoyed our tour with Joe- his love for his New Orleans home and its history are evident, he is a wealth of information on much more than Cocktails. We enjoyed the slower pace of the tour with plenty of time to soak up the ambiance and enjoy the beverage at each stop. It was great that you could choose which beverages to try, and even share one if you weren't sure it was to your liking. This is a great tour to take early in your visit because you will know where to go back to and try more, if you like, and Joe can give plenty of tips on other places to see and things to do. Well worth the cost of the tour.

What a fun and insightful tour! To begin with, our guide, Joe Gendusa, is a walking encyclopedia of NOLA history in general and made the cocktail tour even more fun! Before we even made our first stop, he filled us in on the history of the Louisiana Supreme Court, the beginning history of NOLA first French then Spanish and why the Quarter is Spanish architecture. Napoleon House Pimm's Cup - delicious, The Court of the Two Sisters Bayou Bash - tasty, Antoine's Sazarc - not for the faint of heart and Old Absinthe House Pirate Punch...wasn't brave enough for Absinthe cocktail was amazing backstory and history and ambiance! Joe not only showed us the backrooms/secret rooms at Antoine's he knew all of the servers by name and how long they'd worked there! Joe was amazing! Highly recommend a tour with him and wish the tour was longer!!! Truly wished we'd had his phone number because we would have loved for him to give us a private tour! He knows the City like the back of his hand! I regret not getting his History With A Twist - Lemon or Lime book! Thanks Joe for a great tour!!!

We loved our tour guide. She was from the French quarter and took us to places that were not well known. Hidden Gems. Great cocktails and great stories. Forget Bourbon Street. There are so many other great places to see .

We have been on many tours in New Orleans, but Sandi was the best tour guide we ever had. She not only told us about the history of the cocktails, but also the history of the buildings and area around the bars we visited. The bartenders and staff at the various stops all seem to know and like Sandi, and all welcomed us into their establishments. You could not ask for more based on the price of the tour. Sandi was friendly, helpful and really nice to hang out with.

The best of the best - amazing tour that took us to the most amazing watering holes - brilliant guide - good bunch of people ! We even went to dinner afterwards with 2 of them to continue our eating and drinking experience of this fantastic town. We are still friends on FaceBook 1 year later. Best guide - wish I could remember her name but well worth every cent!

A great introduction to New Orleans! Naif was an awesome guide that presented information in a passionate and expressive way. The history was great, but going behind the scenes to some of the most famous restaurants and bars brought the stories to life. It did help that we had an amazing group of travelers to share in our cocktail adventures. Thank for offering such a great tour with such a wonderful guide.

We were certainly Safe with Naif! Our tour guide, Naif, was terrific. Charming and considerate. He went out of his way, quite literally, to not only teach us about NOLA cocktails, but the city and its traditions, as well. I would do this again if he were my guide. Thanks, Naif!
