Overview

Experience the grandeur of New Orleans’ rich and conflicted past on this post‐cruise plantation shore excursion. Take a journey through Oak Alley Plantation and Laura Plantation, each frozen in time. View stunning architecture, oak‐lined esplanades, and enduring sugar cane fields while learning about the plantations’ fascinating—and somber—histories from expert guides.
  • New Orleans post-cruise plantation shore excursion
  • At Oak Alley Plantation, see giant live oak trees believed to be nearly 300 years old
  • Hear about Laura Plantation's Creole influence and see the historic slave quarters
  • Port or hotel pickup is included
Meet your friendly guide at the Port of New Orleans or at your downtown New Orleans hotel. From your pickup location, settle into a comfortable seat and prepare for a journey back to the antebellum south, before the American Civil War shook the foundation of plantation‐life. Enjoy lively onboard commentary as you pass Whitney, St. Joseph, and Evergreen plantations en route to your first stop—Oak Alley Plantation.

So named for the postcard‐perfect canopy of knotty oak trees that line its entry promenade, Oak Alley Plantation is a centuries‐old jewel of the South that has enjoyed a recent revival. Your guided tour leads up the romantic yet imposing oak path to the ‘Big House,' a perfectly restored example of antebellum elegance and Greek Revival architecture. Tour the opulent rooms of this classic southern home before continuing to the Civil War Encampment exhibit and Slave Quarter exhibit.

Then take a quick drive to Laura Plantation, a Creole plantation whose distinctive and colorful manor house starkly contrasts the reserve of Oak Alley. Accompany your guide on a tour of the main home and the slave quarters, soaking up stories of Creole culture and the charmed, yet tragic, lives of the Duparc family and their slaves. Marvel at the surrounding sugarcane fields—a lush backdrop and stark reminder of the site’s dramatic past before heading back to town.

Your tour ends with a drop‐off at your original starting point.

We really enjoyed the plantation tour. Tour guide was very informative. Lots of history there! The airboat was fun! Seeing alligators and riding on that boat was an adventure. Everyone was very nice!

This was a most enjoyable, interesting Tour. Being picked up at our Hotel was appreciated. The person who drove and took us to the two Plantations spoke us to us clearly and interestingly on the way there with so many details and knowledge. A guide at each of the Plantations took us around and gave us the history of either the main house as well as the outside where there was beautiful trees over 200 years. The Lara Plantation was "a must" to visit. A young guide full of knowledge, old and new, spoke very clearly and had all our attention around this beautiful, well kept home and land. I even bought a book relating to early days of the plantation and the different races living there. We had an amazing excursion and I recommend it very well for all people: Families, Friends, Business, Solo, Couples.

We really enjoyed this tour with our guide Dylan. His information was very interesting as well as the guides we had at Laura's and Oak Alley Plantation. Small group size was fantastic(10).
