We arrived at opening time and were about 15 people from the front of the line - no need for the skip the line expense on any level of the tour. Our friends had similar experience next day arriving even 1 hour after opening. Highly recommend the arriving early strategy. We did pay the extra to go all the way to the top. The view was not significantly different to any of us, but it was indoor and thus warmer which mattered the cold day we toured. Also a trade off between added height and the glass hampering photos a bit. Since we didn't have to wait it was a no-brainer, but if there was a long wait for the top I'd say skip it.
Too foggy to go up on the day we choose, but the tickets are valid for a year...
very amazing tour!!!! we chose to do it by night.....marvellous
It was exactly has promised and the wait was minimal compared to the regular line. We saved at least an hour. The best part was when we wanted to come back down, we got a quick exit too. Thank you.
Definitely worth the extra money to purchase skip the line tickets, especially if on a tight schedule. Felt awkward walking past those who had queued for hours but soon got over that. The people working there were so helpful and made sure we were looked after.
Definitely by the express pass as the wait was just minutes instead of an hour.
Middle of winter, 10 below and a line up two blocks long front of the line was the best bargain on the week long vacation walked in right to the front express security and front of elevator, up and between floors saved over 2.5 hours of waiting in the cold, and for not much more than a regular ticket if you can afford the extra while in NYC, this is one site it is well worth the extra.
We went Christmas afternoon. The observation deck views were amazing. We went to the Rock the night before. Definitely loved daytime views better. The VIP was a must for that day since the line went out the building and around the corner and down the block and it was very cold. Be prepared, if it's windy and 28 outside the windchill will be below 0 up top. The only issue with skip the line is that there are no signs and you have to ask people where to go and you don't know if your in the right spot. If you are standing in a line, ask an attendant there are many where you should go because the only time you have to wait is when there is a couple of other VIP people stuck with the security scanner.
We bought the vip skip the lines tickets. Well worth the extra money during a busy time, especially if you are trying to squeeze in as much of NYC as you can during a short stay, or if you just don't like staying in lines - like me. Just go the the entrance on 5th avenue walking past any existing lines and show your passes to the doorman. He will radio in to the next attendant that a VIP is coming through. You continue past the line to the next attendant, show him your pass and he/she will send you up the escalator in from to others to the next level where you will go through security and continue to walk past the line to the next attendant, who will give you a wrist band, and again send you through a special VIP line to the next attendant. After showing him your pass, he will send you immediately up the elevator to the 80th floor. Same routine when you exit, show the next attendant your wrist band and up you go to the 86th floor observatory. Enjoy the views and repeat the process when ready to go back to Earth. All easy peasy!!!! Can do up and back in 45 minutes with time to enjoy the views.
Wow what a spectacular view, deafly worth the money and your time to watch the city lights slowly turn on and then city completely lit up was amazing. Thanks for the great memories New York. The Johnston’s
You have to do the VIP experience unless you want to waste hours queuing.. You go straight through to the front of security then your shown straight to the lift avoiding further queues to take you up to the observatory level. You need to make sure that you always have your tickets to hand wristband to show the staff otherwise you can end up back in the wrong queue.. The scenes are just amazing... Breathtaking if you have never experienced this before.. And yes, a Brilliant place for that Selfie!!
We went late evening so there were little or no queues.
Fantastic night time views with all the city lights.
Another must see and paying a little extra for the express tickets so avoiding the queues is highly reccomended
Skip the line the line tickets are always a great value at Viator, we have used them from Rome to NYC! The Empire State Bldg is always a classic and fantastic stop in NYC. Great Art Deco Building, great views and awesome downtown location to explore more of the city. Great tour !
It could not have been easier as there were so many Viator employees to guide us quickly through the express lines. Definitely worth the extra money,
