Why Our Insiders Chose This Tour

What You Can Expect

Greenwich Village: Beatniks, Beer and Pizza

Enjoy an afternoon in Greenwich Village with pizza, beer and even a little history

Meet your guide on Bleecker Street, the heart of historic Greenwich Village, for this informative and fun walking tour of one of the Big Apple’s best neighborhoods. Stroll the brownstone-flanked streets of the charming district. Learn about the history of the area from the knowledgeable guide and why the streets of the Village are not part of the Manhattan grid system (hint: it existed before the grid was built). And then see where some of the neighborhood’s famous residents have lived, performed and, of course, drank: from Welsh poet Dylan Thomas to painter Jackson Pollock to musician Bob Dylan.

And then it’s on to the pizza and beer portion of the tour, both of which play an important role in the history and culture of Greenwich Village. Wandering the neighborhood, stop into three well-known by-the-slice pizza spots, learning about what makes New York City pizza so distinctive (and delicious). Sample pizza from Artichoke, Joe’s and John’s of Bleecker Street Pizza.

You’ll also visit two well-known bars: Kettle of Fish on Christopher Street, a pub that Bob Dylan and beat writer Jack Kerouac frequented back in the day, and the historic White Horse Tavern on Hudson Street, where Welsh poet Dylan Thomas drink himself to death. Soak in the atmosphere of these legendary bars as you indulge in a complimentary beer at each and order additional drinks if you wish, at your own expense.

By the time your 2-hour walking tour of Greenwich Village draws to a close, you'll have had a fulfilling meal and will be familiar enough with this famous New York neighborhood to come back and explore it further on your own.

Not an informative tour if you are interested in the Beatnik era. It's more about pizza and beer. I would not recommend this tour.

Simple reason it's rated as it is, the guide never turned up. We was at the meeting place 15 minutes before and left 20 after the meeting time.
