We had Brian as our guide. Nice guy, knows a lot about the neighbourhoods and has a good way of explaining to us. Was open for questions and felt perfectly what we wanted to know and see. Very good tour! Showed us many nice spots and places where you never had come if you were on your own.
Amazing tour. Our guide, Astrid, took us to hidden gems in the lower East side of Manhattan. We combined authentic and very tasty flavours with the fascinating history of the neighbourhoods we visited. This was a top quality history tour, with excellent stops for food.
So Olivia was our tour guide. The temperature was only 7 degrees, but the tour was still on! We met our guide, along with another group of 6 to make our total group 12 bodies, including Olivia. Even with frigid temps, this was an outstanding tour. We all learned alot...Olivia was full of fun facts and kept us interested wile navigating the streets. The food stops were incredible...Chinatown, Little Italy, the Jewish garment district, ending in a German microbrewery!!! I'd just say the risk in booking too far in advance would always be the weather. Sounds like even the rain doesn't cancel this tour. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting NYC. Fascinating and exceptionally well done. Tour guides are well versed with much knowledge and professionalism.
Great tour with Olivia as our tour guide. Our relatives who went with us, were from New York and still learned
a lot of history about Chinatown and Little Italy. She also told them about different restuarants to try out in the city.
This tour combined two things I love--local history and interesting food. Our guide was knowledgeable and a gifted story teller. The food was from long standing neighborhood shops and skillfully woven into the history of the nieghborhoods. This is a must do tour if you are at all interested in the American immigration story.
Jillian was our tour guide and she is a pro. She told the history of the area with plenty of interesting side stories. Do not eat breakfast before you go. We had a cookie and hot chocolate so cold outside!, handmade dumplings, mozzarella and prosciutto, a quarter of 2 different kinds of knish, and ended with bratwurst and hot pretzel. The tour moved quickly and we were surprised at the end to see how much area we had traveled. A lot of fun and worth the price.
This is a really fun, delicious and educational tour. We are New Yorkers, a family of four with children 17 and 12, and despite living here we learned a lot on the tour. Our guide Brian was terrific and the tour is great because it is never a large group. We had 10 people in total and it was easy to stay together as a group and get to chat informally with the guide as you walk from place to place. You stop at different locations to get little tastes of different ethnic food in this fascinating, diverse and historic neighborhood. The small dumpling shop that is the first stop is a real find, and the other stops are equally fascinating and delicious. Highly recommend this neighborhood walking tour and our guide Brian.
So interesting to get the history of the downtown/Chinatown/Little Italy/Lower East Side area as well as go into some food places I wouldn't normally go. Our guide Josh was easy to listen and knowledgeable and friendly.
I highly recommend this tour, it is a great way to see New York that you would not find on your own. We have family that have lived in New York for over 30 years and when we told them the areas and food stops they were highly impressed and said those places are legit.
Bryan was our guide, he was well informed, personable, relatable and relaxed. Bryan gave enough information about each area but not information overload. There were 8 in our group and everyone was engaged throughout the 3 hours. Our favorite spot was China town and the dumplings! Next time were in NYC, we will be taking another tour with Bryan and Urban Adventures.
I had a fabulous time on this tour. Our guide Danielle was very knowledgeable. She went to a lot of trouble to ensure we all had an opportunity to taste the food on offer. The highlight for me was the extent of her knowledge of the lower east side. I learned such a lot that I did not know.
We loved this tour! Having never been to New York before and not knowing the local culture, it would have been difficult to get a handle on the nature of these neighbourhoods without this tour. One always hears of Chinatown and Little Italy but we never realized that it's so much more than that and also, how integrated these communities are. Olivia was our tour guide and her obvious love for her job contributed to the excitement that we felt during the tour. Everyone fell in love with her. She was full of information and had answers to all our questions. The other thing that impressed me was the appreciation and respect that she had for these neighbourhoods and for the people who worked there. As for the food, we sampled items from the different cultural ethnicities... dumplings in Chinatown, Knish in the Jewish quarter, cheese and deli meat in Little Italy, and pretzels in the German neighbourhood along with the beer we ordered.
Very interesting tour. Our tour director Danielle was wonderful - knowledgeable, helpful and informative. Highly recommend this tour - ask for Danielle!
We did the Pizza Tour last year. This years Food and Culture Tour as even better. Great way to see areas or New York, one wouldnt nomaly see.
Although the weather was a bit damp - and thankyou Chinatown for an INY umbrella- Olivia was a magic guide. Lots of info on the history and area, plus lovely snackeroonies! Nice small group too, thoroughly recommended.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable gentle stroll round the Lower East Side. There were four food tasting opportunities at local places and from the different social backgrounds that make up this diverse area of Manhattan. My favourite being the Chinese Dumplings. Our guide Evan was very knowledgeable and relayed the information and facts in a friendly manner. One tip I would give is go easy on the breakfast so you have room for the food tasting.
Wonderful tour! Our tour guide was charismatic and knowledgeable. The food was so good! We had a fantastic time. If you choose this tour, you will not be disappointed.
The combination of interesting food samples, a great guide (Olivia) and fabulous insight really enabled us to connect to what we seeing in N.Y. This tour provides depth of insight that you just won't get by just visiting or looking at things yourself. It was well organised, professional and fun.
Evan brought the history of the area to life with the stories about the ever changing population of the area. The differing foods representing the cultures was a real treat.
It made a huge difference having a knowledgeable local guide and allowed us to discover facts and sample food items we would not have done if we were exploring the area indepententry.
The added attraction of New York's Bravest doing their duty was not part of the tour but made it even more special.
This was such a fun tour! We started with dumplings in Chinatown in a shop you would have walked by an never noticed. We headed next to Little Italy for canolis and cold cuts and cheese. Then we went to the lower eat side for the best home made knishes and blintzes in the world! We ended in a German beer garden I loved the historical stories of the immigrants, neighborhoods and food.
Tour guide was on FIRE! Excellent tour with great information about these neighborhoods, history and food!
A very enjoyable and informative tour. Olivia was an outstanding guide who told us a great deal of interesting history and other information. It rained during at least half of the tour, and that did not detract from it at all. And interesting food too.
Loved it!!!!! I had so much fun learning about the history of the immigrants of NYC. Our guide was wonderful. Loved the small group atmosphere.
Highly recommend this tour through Urban Adventures. Our tour guide, Josh could be a history professor. Great variety of food, great walk interesting sites.
This tour was one of my favourite things that I did in New York. Our tour guide Evan was very enthusiastic, knowledgeable and hilarious. The food we tried was very good and tied in into all the different cultures, and we got to explore the lower east side at a comfortable pace. Well worth the money!
