Late post - Sophia was our tour guide and yes we can still remember her name 6 months later, she was exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly. We did the early tour and would recommend this as less crowded. We loved this tour, Sophia made it an amazing day. :
It was an awesome tour! Zach made the stories come alive. You could literally relive history with his narratives.
Great way to spend a Sunday - even in winter! Lovely and warm inside, good food and plenty of it, accompanied by free flowing mimosas. Friendly staff and a very good jazz band.
One of the highlights of my New York visit. Highly recommended tour
A terrific day with a wonderful guide.
We enjoyed every minute and highly recommend this tour.

This tour is a must if you have limited time in New York and want to get out the islands hassle-free. I have done it several times with different travel companions for the convenience.
Tour was amazing and Remy our tour guide was the best. Told us everything we needed and more. Unbelievable tour and if you get Remy it will even be more special

Our tour guide was amazing. He had so many facts about the Statue and made the tour so much more interesting than trying to do it on our own. We took the elevator up and stairs down. The statue is so intricately detailed. He pointed out the chains on her feet and the symbolism. We would never have noticed this detail without our guide. He even laid down on the ground to take out pictures with the statue in the background. Viator did a great job selecting this guide.
Our guide Remy was excellent - very knowledgeable and interesting. His enthusiasm was catching - which was just as well because the entire trip took place in deep fog.
I would without hesitation recommend anyone contemplating this tour to book it with Viator. Our guide Alice was simply outstanding. She was not only efficient and entertaining but so knowledgeable, friendly and very enthusiastic. If we had done this on our own we would not have enjoyed it so much or learnt so much.
Remy was an awesome leader! He knew the history well and presented it clearly. He was great about answering questions. We learned a great deal and would happily go on another Viator tour.
Our guided tour of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island was superb and our tour guide Sara was absolutely brilliant
This was a good tour, it was mostly guided with just a couple times to explore all appropriate. Very informative and knowledgable. Great time.
The tour guide was so very interesting and answered all our questions.
Took the Liberty and Ellis Island Tour, with our Guide Rachel, on the worst weather day of the year! We had a full white out blizzard, the sea was stormy and it was freezing cold! We didn't even think that the tour would go ahead. However, Rachel to the rescue! Our guide made the most of what could have been a disappointing day. She was charming informative, cheerful and super professional. We learnt so much about the history of the Liberty Statue, the role of Ellis Island and the early immigrant experience. Guide Rachel made us feel part of a little family group for the day, and we were so grateful that she made such an effort to make the tour go ahead. We were visiting from Northern Ireland and our itinerary was very tight, so any cancellation would have been a disaster. We made up for the poor outdoor visibility by taking the Staten Island Ferry two days later, and that gave us a great opportunity for photos. This is an excellent tour we were pre-booked on the ferries, were escorted through security and were given four excellent hours of information and history. If you can book with Guide Rachel do so, she is superb - she even made a short video of the day and e-mailed it to each group member. Definitely recommended!
Very informative tour.
Our guide was very funny and passionate about this city. I learned insteresting facts about the Statue of Liberty and had a great time there.
Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Guided Tour started promptly at 8:30AM. At 8:15AM, one meets the Viator Tour Guide at the Castle Clinton Monument gift store to check-in and receive the tour tickets. The gift store opens up at 8:00AM. One should arrive early and attend the first tour of the day at 8:30AM to avoid the long lines and crowds. Guided Tour will last around 4 hours and is highly recommended to learn about the history of the historical sites.
It's best to check the weather ahead of time. Sunny and clear skies will allow one to take great pictures of the Statue of Liberty. If it is raining, overcast, cloudy, etc., one will not be able to get a great view.
Tourists will have to go through two security check points like the TSAs at the airport - one before boarding the ferry and one upon arriving at the Statue of Liberty. Large backpacks are not allowed in the Statue of Liberty. Locker rentals are available for 2.00 Cash Only and are located at the small gift store before entering the museum/Statue of Liberty.
There is a larger gift store which is located by the ferry dock. A large variety of souvenirs are available for purchase like statues, posters, t-shirts, etc. There is another gift store located at the Castle Clinton Monument, but the variety of souvenirs is limited.
Viator Tour Guide, Alice, is awesome. Being highly energetic and very enthusiastic, she is very knowledgeable and passionate of the history of the Statue of Liberty, Castle Clinton Monument and Ellis Island as well as surrounding areas in New York. Alice would take out her pictorial guide and thoroughly explain the significance of each picture in relation to the history of New York and New Jersey.
Alice keeps the group interested and engaged in the tour conversation, always asking questions after presenting information. She keeps everyone on a tight schedule to ensure that the maximum benefit of the tour is received, but has flexibility for everyone to enjoy the tour. Alice is accommodating in taking pictures for the guests in front of the Statue of Liberty and making recommendations on taking pictures of the New York skyline when one is walking around the pedestal of the statue. To get to the crown of the statue, one must make reservations way in advance since the visiting slots fill up fast.
With so many visitors and tourists visiting the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, one can easily get lost in the crowd. Alice made sure to inform our group to be at a certain spot within a certain time. When we walked around the historical sites, she had her handy orange flag held up high on a selfie stick and easily visible for our tour group to follow and not get separated or lost.
Customer focused is one of Alice's strong points. She made sure that everyone was comfortable and kept warm from the freezing temperatures in late December by taking periodic breaks within the buildings. As stated earlier, Alice was mindful of the time on the tour, especially if there were members who had another commitment to attend to close to the end of the tour like myself in getting to the 911 Memorial Guided Tour and Museum visit also highly recommended ... a 15-20 minutes walk from Castle Clinton Monument passing the Little Girl and the Bull statues in the financial district.
Great recommendations were made by Alice for taking pictures of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island when the tour group was on the ferry. She also made recommendations for nearby restaurants and eateries after the tour ended. The tour group and my family greatly appreciated having Alice as our Tour Guide. Several of us generously provided Alice with monetary tips.
Overall, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Guided Tour is highly recommended as a must thing to do/see while vacationing in New York. It was money well spent. Thanks Alice! A :
My children were ill beyond belief on the day of this tour. The local vendor help me to rearrange the tour within the bounds of their company policy and turned a nightmare into positive experience.
Nathan Cann our tour guide, was exceptional!! You could tell from the first moment you met him, that he throughly enjoyed his job. His knowledge of our tour was very impressive, and his communication skills were great! We have had tour guides before, but Nathan ranks at the top of our list!!
