Upon entering Rockefeller Center, pass through security and ride up to the Top of the Rock Observation Deck, open 365 days a year.

The view is as dramatic a sight as anyone can get in New York City. Day or night, the three indoor and outdoor decks serve to impress.

It was an incredible view, however it is super crowded and lots of long lines. There is a cafe and bar that’s nice to relax in if you can find seating.

Great experience and we were fortunate to have great views! Even though, the observation deck and building were crowded, the staff were very accommodating and helpful, and kept everyone organized. We had a 12 noon reservation and were taken very promptly at our reservation time. My only suggestion would be to increase the size of the restaurant/bar.

This was such an amazing experience, our tour guide Jaclyn was incredible, so passionate which really bought the whole memorial to life. She painted such an emotive picture, and I learnt so much about the events that took place that day, as I was only just born when it happened back in 2001. If we just visited without a tour guide I would never have known some of the incredible facts Jaclyn told us about!

Worth the time and money

We were last at Top of the Rock about 15-16 years ago and it was an elevator ride and a photo backdrop. Today, it’s been built into an entire experience that absolutely justifies the ticket price. It’s well staffed with informed, friendly people and the crowd is well controlled—and this is during Xmas week! The historical 5 minute movie is a nice intro. There are many spaces to see different views. There’s a bar-restaurant at the top but was crowded. You can see three different levels, which is fun. We didn’t do either of the add-ons—riding the beam like the metal workers or the upper view ride. But we didn’t feel like we missed out. It was very cold but the glass barriers helped. I’m an ex-NYer who once worked at 30Rock so I have a soft spot for things like this. But I would recommend it over the ESB because you get great views and the ESB is in the view!
