Niagara on the Lake Foodie Tour
Susan_F, Sep 2019
I took a tour 2 years ago with this same company and it was fabulous! The tour this past weekend was a BIG disappointment. The tour guide was on the phone for the first part of the tour trying to add more guests to the restaurant meals. There was very little history provided of the area. All the food stops were in close proximity and based on sugary desserts. 2 guests needed gluten free products and they were not accomodated. The tour in 2016 was great compared to this. What happened???

Thanks to our tour guide, Janet, for a wonderful Sunday afternoon. The restaurants that we visited were some of the nicest. Everything from beer and cheeses to sandwiches, to chimney cake and more! The history of Niagara on the Lake came to life as Janet told it to us.
So Much Fun

We had a wonderful adventure in Niagara on the Lake. Our tour guide, Raeanne, was very knowledgeable about the town. We really enjoyed all the restaurants that she took us to sample. We especially loved the cheese shop and the Hungarian bakery with the chimney cake. We highly recommend the tour.

We love that you think of a food tour as a mini adventure! We make it a habit to do one everywhere we travel. Glad to hear you enjoyed your day and had fun wandering NOTL with Raeanne.

This was a great tour. Gary was very informative, fun and personable. We had some great beer, Thai food, pizza, pumpkin cheesecake and gelato. The tour covers a lot of territory, so be prepared for a good walk. I would highly recommend the tour and Gary as the guide!

Our tour guide Charlie was wonderful!! Very entertaining and informative. But couldn't give 5 stars for a couple of reasons. We had a group of 8 but for some reason Viator only had us down for 6. Good thing I had my voucher for 8 with me. Also Viator told us when we made the reservation that wine was included at each restaurant. This was definitely not true. Beer was included at our first stop which was a brewery. We were able to buy drinks on our own at the other stops but this is not what we were told. Also, be prepared to walk!! This tour isn't just in the town area but also goes out to the other part of town.

Chris did an exceptional job on our walking foodie tour. He is very knowledgeable about the area. We sampled beer, appetizers, pizza and desserts at 5 different restaurants. I highly recommend this tour and just a trip to Niagara-on-the-Lake which is absolutely beautiful.

The tour guide, Charlie, was entertaining and very knowledgeable. The history part was spot on. It was not a food tour. What does curry cauliflower soup have to do with Niagara - still don't know. And walking 8 blocks for a slice of pizza is not my idea of a foodie tour. A couple of the food spots were good, but overall, this is a very good historical tour with some ok snacks on the side.

I really enjoyed my time on this tour! Our tour guide was great! In the food was very impressive but very small. The tour guide knew a lot about the history. ... And he was very accommodating. I would recommend the I would recommend this tour, if you like a lot of walking and not much food.

First, our guide and leader, Charlie, did an exceptional job of leading us around NOTL and sharing his vast knowledge of the area and it's history. His delivery was energetic and interesting. That said, the 6 of us attending together felt the tour didn't meet expectations. The tour was advertised as a foodie tour. We went to a food store and heard nothing. We went to Oban and met the chef. He told us what we were eating and that's it. We went to Orzo and had great rissotto but got no explanation. We went to the pastry shop and the gelato shop and got to hear much more about things. Also, we signed up expecting the walk part of the trip which was fine. However, due to the pace of the walk, we spent not much more than an hour combined at the food venues. We learned nothing about the culinary trends in the area or anything like what was advertised. While the food we had was marvelous, we could have done so on our own. The history was a bonus but not why we selected this tour. I would not recommend it but hesitate to mark less than 2 stars since Charlie did such a nice job. We suggest changing your advertising.

A group of us were visiting N-O-T-L and decided to do this tour. No regrets and worth the fee of 65. As this was in the spring the visit included an amazing visit to Willow Cakes and Pastries which made for an extended walk. Charlie our guide Really Charlie?! was very well informed about local history and our guided tour was touched with the right amount of humour. It is always a great day when you learn at least one new thing and have such wonderful food to eat! Time wise this ran longer than expected, however this was because one of the establishments we visited was running behind schedule. Mentioning this in case you have time constraints. At this time of year there was no shortage of flowers and flowering trees to feast our eyes upon. Something to mention is that the temperature dropped by several degrees and made this walk chillier than we were dressed for so dress with caution and layers so you can be comfortable. Also want to mention that there was no shortgage of washrooms to use along the way. Well done Charlie!

Although I loved NOTL and learnt a lot about this quaint town, the food was a little lacking. The picture at left had me quite excited about what I would get, but nothingg like this was supplied. I would skip the big main meal to start with and aim for more tasting plates with wine

It was a nice day and a good walk. We ate Irish stew, a wonderful salad with fresh ricotta cheese, mussels, had a couple of good drinks and a delicious chocolate desert all followed by gelato. The tour guide was incredible and we enjoyed his vast knowledge of the history of Niagara on the Lake. This tour is a MUST DO!!!

We live in the Buffalo, NY area and this is only one hour away. Niagara On The Lake has been called The Loveliest Town in Ontario and for very good reasons. The town is quaint and very historic. We have been to NOTL many times but the Culinary Tour on Friday July 3, 2015 was the highlight of our visits. Charlie, the tour guide, was witty, entertaining and very knowledgeable about NOTL and its unique history. Just walking around the Town and its beautiful sights would have been sufficient but to have the added benefit of the culinary tasting made for a perfect afternoon. We stopped at 5 different eateries and all were very generous in their food portions and ambiance. Each location treated all four of us as special with knowledgeable personnel being very attentive to us. We had a choice of 5 pub lunches at an Irish Pub, a special caprice salad at a restaurant next to the Shaw Festival, a lobster-crab cake and glass of wine at one of the finest Inns in NOTL. We then went to a boutique bakery for a strawberry shortcake and finished with ample tastings of a large variety of sorbets and gelatos. The 3 hours went by very quickly and were balanced with walking and eating, NOTL is a real gem and the Culinary Tour made it all the better.
