With this Coconut Island snorkeling tour, you'll leave the streets of Waikiki behind as you depart for 'Gilligan’s Island,' an offshore islet in Kaneohe Bay that’s rung by a barrier reef. Learn about ancient cultural sites and Oahu’s underwater ecosystem, and enjoy snorkeling in Kaneohe Bay with Hawaiian green sea turtles and fish. You’ll also spend time exploring near shore and enjoy a barbecue lunch, and since this 6-hour Oahu eco-adventure only has eight guests per guide, the professional instruction and level of service is as personalized as it can get.

  • Oahu kayaking and snorkeling tour in Kaneohe Bay
  • Paddle from He'eia State Park to Coconut Island (aka Gilligan’s Island)
  • Snorkel on a protected barrier reef in the pristine bay
  • Spot sea turtles and search for manta rays
  • Receive paddling instruction and snorkeling tips
  • Small-group tour limited to 16 participants, with a maximum of eight participants per guide

Why Our Insiders Chose This Tour

If at any time you need a break from paddling, the guides hook you up to an escort boat for a tow, making this kayaking tour ideal for all ages and skill levels.

What You Can Expect

Kaneohe Bay Kayak and Snorkel Tour to Coconut Island

Watch for sea turtles on this Oahu snorkeling tour.

This Kaneohe Bay snorkeling tour begins at your hotel door, where your local guide will meet you for transport to He’eia State Park. Set on Oahu’s windward coast, which faces east towards the island of Molokai, the beaches here are far less developed than those back in Waikiki.

Upon reaching isolated Kaneohe Bay, lifejackets, dry bags, and snorkeling gear are distributed by one of your guides. You’ll explore a map that explains the area, and receive professional paddling instruction before settling into your kayak. Next, you’ll conveniently tie up to an escort boat that does the hard work for you, as it tows your kayaks out towards the bay to maximize time spent snorkeling.

Once you unlink from the escort boat, your professional guide will lead you on a paddle towards the shores of Coconut Island, which at one point was used to film Gilligan’s Island, but is now used for research and educational classes by the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology. During your paddle, your guide will narrate the cultural history surrounding Kaneohe Bay, and discuss the unique marine ecology of Oahu’s only barrier reef.

Upon reaching the shores of Coconut Island, you’ll next embark on a snorkeling tour of a protected section of coastline, where sea turtles, manta rays and even eagle rays will sometimes pay you a visit. After you work up an appetite from snorkeling, you’ll snack on granola bars and sip on juice before paddling back across the bay.

If the morning trade winds start to blow — or you’re simply tired from snorkeling — the escort boat is available to shuttle you all the way back towards the beach. On land, there are showers and changing rooms where you can freshen up for a barbecue lunch on the beach, where chicken, pork ribs and corn on the cob are served with an oceanfront view. Pair the meat with some fresh green salad and sweet slivers of pineapple, and then settle in for the comfortable ride to your Waikiki hotel.

Please note: This 6-hour Kaneohe Bay snorkeling tour includes about three hours on water and three hours on land.

This is a great tour - for all ages and experiences. My father at age 89 thoroughly enjoyed this experience - the waters are just as calm as you see in the photos they provide and the water is crystal clear!

Kaneohe Bay is the number 1 research facility for coral in the world. We took the kayak back and forth totaling about 2.5 miles so it was a great workout and then explored the under water treasures of the coral. The lunch when we came back was great and filling with corn, ribs, salad and chicken. I would go on this tour if you are looking to snorkel and get a nice workout.

Amazing tour! Our guides Micah and Kevin were fantastic and made the whole experience really fun and upbeat. They helped us find the best areas to snorkel and made sure we had enough snacks and drinks. Our transportation to and from our hotel was on time and made the trip super easy, and the lunch provided was really good! Would definitely go back to take the rest of the family.

Great experience, Zoe and Natalie were great guides, and snorkeling was awesome. We had rain but it didn't make a difference-still incredible. Terrific lunch afterwards too.

I would do this trip again. You get the real Hawaii in this trip. Views are amazing and the snorkeling was on a living reef with a lot of tropical fish of all types

Zoey was really great. She gave us a lot of good information and tips for being on the island. The trip was great. The reef was unbelievable. They treated us to a great bbq for lunch. This was an amazing day. We could have spent all day in the water snorkeling.

This was a great trip! Bailey and Kevin were great trip leaders and made everyone feel welcome right off the bat. I was a single traveller and it was a great and safe option to get out and see the sights. I'd been to Oahu a few times and wanted to do a trip that was different than all the regular tours and this fit the bill.

I loved the fact that all the profits from our trip went back to the nonprofit to support programs for kids.

Don't hesitate to book with this company, it was a great day!
