What You Can Expect

Oahu Shore Excursion: North Shore and Polynesian Cultural Center

Ripe pineapple on the Dole Plantation

You’ll start your Oahu shore excursion when you’re picked up directly at the port, with your first stop being the Dole Pineapple Plantation outside the town of Wahiawa. Learn the history of the pineapple in Hawaii and how it grows on the plant, and nibble on slivers of golden pineapple before trying the pineapple whip.

You’ll next stop in funky Haleiwa — the North Shore’s unofficial capital — where boutique markets and local shops are highlighted by a blend of international surfers, artists and travelers. The tour continues around the island’s northern tip past miles of white sand beaches, where surfers travel from across the world to ride the wintertime waves.

In the town of Laie you’ll make a stop at the Polynesian Cultural Center, where you’re suddenly transported to a host of islands throughout the South Pacific. Learn the cultures of Tonga, Samoa, Hawaii and Aotearoa, as well as traditions from Tahiti, the Marquesas and the distant islands of Fiji. Like journeying thousands of miles in a day, you’ll experience Samoans who easily climb up 40-foot (12-meter) palm trees for coconuts, or stare in wonder at Tahitian dancers who rapidly gyrate their hips. There are activities for travelers of all ages, including spear-throwing contests for kids, who may also enjoy getting temporary tattoos or watching the fire knife dancing.
