My sister and I both enjoyed this workshop. The little studio was cozy and welcoming. The instructor spoke English very well. I especially enjoyed the tea at the end. Thank you!

    Educational and Fun
    Domenic_o, Dec 2024
Excellent cultural experience! The host is a one man operation who focuses on Kitsugi as his own small buisiness. It was very educational and rewarding as he takes you through both the real process and meaning behind Kintsugi!

Intimate Kinstugi Experience with Engaging Presenter
    Alana_W, Nov 2024
Our class was just our group of 4 people which made the experience feel very intimate and personable. Jo was a great speaker and kept us engaged. Lesson was in a very old and historic building which was very cool. Jo also showed us how to prepare matcha at the end of our session which was a pleasant surprise. Some tips for others looking to book: - we made "chopping" style Kinstugi rather than "cracking" type. I was expecting the latter since that's what you usually see in pictures, but am still very happy with the end result. - the final product takes some time to cure, so Jo will ship you your work (note: ticket price did not include shipping) - it's a little tricky to find, I'd recommend saving a few minutes to find the entrance - Namba Yasaka Jinja was right nearby, worth a look on your way out

This experience was so great! Not just a workshop to do the final steps of kintsugi, but was very educational and very informative. Would recommend doing this to anyone who is interested in pottery or doing something more hands on during their trip.

Calming workshop experience with expert craftsman
    Aki_L, Oct 2024
Jo went above and beyond to make this a memorable experience. We learned so much about the art of kintsugi and got to see some of the projects he's working on. Chatting with him was fun too, and the overall vibe of the shop was very calming which is nice after the bustle of big cities. Can't recommend highly enough!

Authentic experience - I'll do it again
    Marilyn_G, Jul 2024
Jo-San was terrific -- he made this entire experience really enjoyable and informative. I loved being able to actually apply the adhesive and the gold. Jo-San explained the kintsugi process from beginning to end, and I learned so much. The art studio is rustic, making the experience even more authentic. Enjoying a casual matcha tea together was the perfect finishing touch. Highly recommend. I'll do it again, if/when I ever get to come back to Japan.

Great workshop with amazing host in a beautiful location
    Samuel_M, Jun 2024
Really fun workshop with a charming and engaging host. The workshop is a stunning heritage building and we were able to choose which pot or plate we liked best to work on for the morning. The host has excellent English and was able to explain the history and process of Kintsugi very clearly. He even walked us to the nearby shrine when the class was over so we didn’t miss it! Would thoroughly recommend this workshop.

    Beyond Amazing
    Monnia_B, May 2024
This is an amazing workshop! Jo was beyond knowledgeable and happy to share what he knows. The class was interactive but also very educational. This class is great for those who want to learn the basics. Jo has already started some of the Kintsugi process as each steps take days to cure.

    A class for an artist
    ClintonZ, Apr 2024
This was a good experience. You learned the history of kintsugi and from a true artist of the art form. His English was excellent! I thought the class was a bit pricey for what you received, but I also understand the price of materials are pricey for this type of art form as well (REAL 24k gold powder!) Don’t do this class if you don’t want to pay for shipping of your dishes after the cure period required for this work. This class would only be recommended to somebody who is seriously thinking about taking this art form up as a hobby. Not for the average tourist. Not for kids.

Fantastic experience with a relaxed atmosphere
    singingjayne, Mar 2024
This was such a fun experience for me and my friend. We found the place ok as Jo was waiting outside and then had a great time learning about all the different ways that kintsugi can be done along with the pros and cons of each way. Jo helped us with the final step of the process on our pieces (you can't do the whole thing as the prep work takes almost a month) and made sure he could get them to us at our hotel later in our trip. He showed us several pieces he is/has worked on. He also helped us make matcha and enjoyed a nice cup of tea chatting with us and gave us recommendations for restaurants nearby that met dietary restrictions. We had so much fun and learned a lot plus got an excellent dinner at his recommendation.

    Wonderful workshop
    Ava_K, Jan 2024
This workshop was one of the highlights of our trip. We had a wonderful time learning from Josuke about the history and art of kintsugi and seeing all of the different steps (like the types of lacquer). It put in perspective the amount of hard work and time that go into making kintsugi, which gave us a better appreciation of the art form. We were each able to take home a piece of porcelain as a lasting memory as well.

Joe is an excellent teacher who is very patient. He is extremely passionate about kintsugi and it is clear during the session when he shares about its history and process. The workshop is in a beautiful building with age and character where there is also space for a gallery of his works. Highly-recommended!

Interesting workshop in a peaceful space
    Anne_E, Oct 2023
We had an amazing time with Joe, who created a peaceful space to teach us about Kintsugi. The part Joe left for us was not challenging so it’s something for all abilities to enjoy. We look forward to using our pieces at home. Joe showed us the local temple and was a great host. Thrilled with this workshop
    Response from Host, Oct 2023
