Half-day tour from Palermo to Monreale and Cefalù
Travel on to charming Cefalù
Tour the Medieval village, including the Mandralisca Museum, Medieval lavatory and more
Our tour was this past week, Mid October 2017, from Palermo with Michael. We had the additional luxury of being a small group in a van rather than a large group in a bus. Michael was very knowledgeable, considerate, and professional. He gave us plenty of information in English, Italian and German! about Monreale and Cefalu and answered all our questions courteously. The amount of time that we had was adequate in both cases to see the highlights of either Monreale or Cefalu....and to stop off to taste the reportedly best arancini in the area. I highly recommend this tour. Although both places are accessible by train from Palermo, it is worth the extra money to be picked up at your hotel, dropped off right where you need to be in Monreale or Cefalu, and to have an expert like MIchael at your disposal throughout the tour.
Michael Thur was our amazing driver. We were very fortunate that he was also an excellent guide. There were only 9 of us so it was a cozy tour not a coach bus, thank goodness. Michael gave us an excellent overview of all that we were seeing as we drove to Monreale ad explained what we about to see there. It is so beautiful. Michael again engaged us in delightful conversation about everything around us and so much more about Sicily itself on the way to and from Cefalu. He even made restaurant reservations for us or that evening! My husband lost his cell phone in Cefalu and Michael went out of his way to help us find it. He had been giving tours in Spanish the day before and switched over to English effortlessly. Michael was on time, gave us extra time, and returned us to our hotel. How he drove through the traffic of Palermo I'll never understand. And I live in Los Angeles where we think the traffic is bad! I should add the price was terrific. Many thanks.
We had 2 wonderful tours with Giusy. She is very knowlegeable and made our tours of the sights even more fascinating with her explanations and historical perspectives. We will always fondly remember our time with her in Palermo, Monreale, and Cefalù. We felt like we became good friends with her, she is a very warm and friendly person. We highly recommend her! Grazie mille Guisy!!!
Jaw dropping - that's all I can say. However, there was an unfortunate circumstance that day. There was no audio-guide and our group did not get to the minimum 8 pax to get a guide. However, there is a small bookstore in Monreal where you can buy a primer on the church to tell you about it. Michael, who was like a tour coordinator, gave a few background of the place. Despite the lack of a guide, Monreal was surreal, Much as Ravenna is the capital Byzantine mosaics, Monreal's church was a different flavor and frankly the one that I prefer. In Cefalu, the center piece was like a twin of Monreal but you go there for the ambience. It's a small walking town, that reminded me of Oia in Santorini, and to sit in a restaurant, inside the town, or next to the sea while having lunch was such a memorable experience. Don't make the same mistake I did when I thought we were given only one hour to of around. It was actually 2 hours and I waisted 15 minutes waiting for every one to return, until I saw Michael and clarified that he said one hour to go around, and one hour to shop!
Monreale Duomo is breathtaking and Cefalu is a beautiful town to wander around. As the tour had been over booked we were lucky to have a private tour with Michael who was a fantastic guide. Thanks Michael for a great tour.

Excellent excursion. Incredible sights! Worth every penny.
Our driver was fun, experienced and overall excellent.
Pleasant day seeing some wonderful sites.
Our driver was professional and friendly. Monreale was amazing, and Cefalu was interesting, but crammed with tourists--it is a vacation/beach town for locals as well--the town was pleasant, but other than walking the streets and eating at a local restaurant, there was really not that much to do in Cefalu.
A great day. Monreale amazing cathedral...and Cefalu a unique location.
Lovely settings and well worth a visit...only disappointment was there was nobody to take us around the sites and explain about history, development, etc.
It would also have welcomed to receive comment on the landscape, industry, etc. That we passed on the way from Palermo to Cefalu.
