What You Can Expect

Palermo Street Food Walking Tour

Enjoy a walk through Palermo's Vucciria Market

Meet your guide in Piazza Verdi, near the iconic Teatro Massimo opera house. It’s the largest in Italy, and was in a pivotal scene in The Godfather: Part III. Get your Palermo ‘foodie’s passport,’ which you’ll get stamped at every tasting point along the tour.

Street food is cooked and served at street stalls, modest bakeries and old bars. This street food tour has been designed to show Palermo with no filters of any kind.

Begin making your way to the Vucciria Market and Mercato di Capo, two busy and colorful outdoor markets in Palermo. Listen as your guide offers insights into how Sicily’s unique culinary history informs its street food scene while vendors of local produce and seafood promote their goods. The Church of the Immaculate Conception is nearby, which you can visit if you like (own expense).

Get in line at neighborhood bakeries, cafes and street food stalls to try a variety of famous Sicilian street snacks. Munch on chickpea fritters called panelle and deep-fried balls of rice stuffed with meat, vegetables and cheese called arancine as you collect stamps in your foodie passport.

Sip on a sweet Sicilian wine to wash down your fried treats, and then head for a seasonal dessert. You may indulge in Sicily’s famous cannoli (deep-fried pastry cylinders filled with sweetened ricotta cheese), some gelato or a refreshing granita (a fruity slushy).

From June-September, the tour lasts 3 hours and finishes at Piazza San Domenico. From October-May, the tour is extended to 4 hours and includes visits the Quattro Canti with its Baroque architecture, Piazza Pretoria and its impressive fountain and the Ballarò Market. This tour finishes at the Palermo Cathedral.

Our guide, Salvo, did a fabulous job! He went over and above getting us extra foods and drinks that weren't included on the foodie passport. He also went over the allocated time for the tour explaining more about the city, which all of us were more than happy about! Definitely recommend this tour to get a good feel for the city and its amazing food!

This tour is a MUST DO while in Palermo! The tour guide Salvo made the entire experience one of the best days/tours we experienced on our Honeymoon. He was a native from Palermo, and had so much inside information about the city and the Italian culture. We absolutely loved it. I recommend this tour as a must do while you are in Palermo. It allows you to see the whole city in one swoop!

A Highly reccommended Tour in Palermo, I would suggest getting in on Day 1 of your stay, as it will set you up for the remainder of your stay. The Tour includes walking all around the back street markets and also historical sites of significance. Our guide was terrific and she obviously had a great rapport with many of the street vendors. We tried many of the Palermo delights which even included a picnic in a backstreet Taverna with some of the locals trying the local brew. This is the MUST DO tour of Palermo.

Marco was wonderful and it different Gave us the confidence to try more street food later.
