What You Can Expect

The Earthquake Canyon Bike Express

The Earthquake Canyon Bike Express

This tour begins with a morning pickup from your Palm Desert hotel, or you can also choose to meet at Ralph’s supermarket not far from the Palm Desert downtown. Once you meet with your expert guide, you’ll be fitted with a helmet and a bike that’s just the right size for your frame.

Over the course of the 20-mile (32-km) ride, you’ll experience dramatic desert scenery and panoramic views, where you can make out everything from Mt San Jacinto — which is often snowcapped in winter — to the agricultural fields of the Coachella Valley and the shimmer of the Salton Sea. You’ll ride through the heart of the San Andreas Fault line, and experience the area where the Colorado Desert transitions into the Mojave. When riding through Box Canyon, stare straight up at the canyon walls that rise above you on both sides.

As this ride takes place entirely on paved roads with no cross streets or turns, it’s a relaxing, scenic, and enjoyable adventure accessible to all levels of cyclists.

In total, you’ll lose 1,200 feet (366 meters) of elevation over the course of the 4-hour ride, and, aside from the stop for water, snacks, granola bars and, even, homemade cookies, a support vehicle follows for the entirety of the ride. It's also there to transport you at the end. The ride finishes at the Oasis Date Gardens with a cold, refreshing drink.

Great time. Guides are knowledgeable. Scenery amazing. I would highly recommend. I will say that the first 15 minutes were a little difficult as it was very windy. After that downhill smooth ride.

Out guide Steve was knowledgeable and supported our ride throughout the morning with information, water and snacks. We recommend this tour for groups or families of older kids who can ride 20 miles and are interested in the desert geology and ecology of the valley. The ride is scenic and downhill but being in decent shape helps. Steve picked us up and narrated the trip to the start point, telling us about the area and the interesting sights. Great for out of towners who have an interest in the desert terrain and the history and geology of the area. The date shakes at the end were a great touch and we enjoyed seeing the date farms as they were getting ready to harvest August

Our tour was excellent! I would recommend the tour to everyone as long as the had our tour guide George. He was very knowledgeable and knew a lot of things about the history of the cities and the tour. We really enjoyed the entire tour.

Geo Jane was wonderful. There were only three of us on the ride, all experienced cyclists, so it was a very harmonious trip. Would definitely recommend for any level biking.. Very scenic and educational.

It was a great day with entertaining, insightful guides. Truth be told, our two guides have inspired me to apply for their job when I'm in my late 60's, 70's! This excursion was likely the highlight of my trip.
