What You Can Expect

The Earthquake Canyon Bike Express

The Earthquake Canyon Bike Express

This tour begins with a morning pickup from your Palm Desert hotel, or you can also choose to meet at Ralph’s supermarket not far from the Palm Desert downtown. Once you meet with your expert guide, you’ll be fitted with a helmet and a bike that’s just the right size for your frame.

Over the course of the 20-mile (32-km) ride, you’ll experience dramatic desert scenery and panoramic views, where you can make out everything from Mt San Jacinto — which is often snowcapped in winter — to the agricultural fields of the Coachella Valley and the shimmer of the Salton Sea. You’ll ride through the heart of the San Andreas Fault line, and experience the area where the Colorado Desert transitions into the Mojave. When riding through Box Canyon, stare straight up at the canyon walls that rise above you on both sides.

As this ride takes place entirely on paved roads with no cross streets or turns, it’s a relaxing, scenic, and enjoyable adventure accessible to all levels of cyclists.

In total, you’ll lose 1,200 feet (366 meters) of elevation over the course of the 4-hour ride, and, aside from the stop for water, snacks, granola bars and, even, homemade cookies, a support vehicle follows for the entirety of the ride. It's also there to transport you at the end. The ride finishes at the Oasis Date Gardens with a cold, refreshing drink.
