    While on vacation in Panama City, we decided we wanted to learn more about the African influence in the region. We booked our tour and were instructed to meet our tour guide, Dash, in front of the quaint little Afro-Antillean Museum, a former church. The temperature was already above 80 degrees (F) when we arrived and the gate to the museum was locked, so we had to stand out in the heat for a while. The tour started quite a bit later than advertised, but Dash got things moving pretty quickly. Dash discussed the history of Blacks in the region - from Africa and the West Indies - and their contributions to building not only the canal, but the country as a whole. Once outside, Dash explained the mural along the wall surrounding the museum, then we took a walk through the city, stopping briefly for a refreshing drink in the vegetable market. The tour continued down Ave. Central and ended in Casio Viejo near Plaza Herrera. This was a good tour, and Dash gave us incredible insight and quite an interesting perspective.

    Dash was amazing! She knows her history of Panama. If you want a well-rounded insight, book this tour! The “old” town tour plus the recommended places was worth it! Made the Panama experience even better.

    My family and I really enjoyed our tour with Dash! She was punctual, very informed and passionate about the African/West Indian influence in Panama's history. We were unable to visit the Museum, but Dash did an excellent job of adding value to the tour. It was a hot day, but she gave us water and made a pit stop to a local vendor for natural juices. She also gave us recommendations on food and activities. Thanks Dash for an amazing first day.

    Excellent tour for all

    Dash is committed to providing an accurate history of Panama, and emphasized the undeniable contributions made by the AfroAntillano community. I love how she did not shy away from complex accounts of historic and contemporary dynamics between diverse ethnic communities and the larger structural frameworks that demonstrate racism and inequities. She also raised thoughtful questions to consider why certain decisions were made politically decades ago that continue to impact the current landscape of Afrodescendant realities. I highly recommend this tour for everyone.

    An AfroPanama Cultural Tour to remember

    This tour was a wonderful way to learn more about the Afro-Antillean culture, influence, and experience in Panamá including their contributions to building the Panama Canal. Our tour guide, Dash was so knowledgeable, personable and passionate about the topics presented. Visiting the museum and the walking tour to Casco Viejo were definitely the highlights. You will be enlightened if you take this tour. We sure were!
