We loved this tour! It was everything and more. Our tour guide, Gus, kept everyone well informed in both lively English and Spanish. The size of the ship allowed up close and personal views of the locks, the big ships we traveled with, and the islands in Lake Gatun. They kept us full, too, with a generous breakfast, lunch and a snack. Going through all 6 locks allowed for getting familiar with the whole process. the beautiful ride through Gatun Lake allowed for leisure. Some read books, some played cards, we talked a lot with our fellow travelers. I think it was even better than going through on a cruise ship because we we so close to the water the whole time.
The full day tour is a must, although a long day, to fully appreciate the canal. Gus provided the best commentary throughout the whole trip with a great sense of humour. Thanks to our pilots, a requirement for any shop passing the canal, for jumping the queues and saving us 2 hours of wait time.
Best experience ever!
We thought the tour was very well done !!! Groups were color-coded wrist bands We loaded the boat by groups. This coding also made eating times very organized. The food was very good. The tour guide was excellent...learned so much. Saw the whole canal with all the locks. Everything worked out very well. Would recommend this tour to everyone! Thank you, Bob and Susan
Yes, yes, yet! Do this full transit tour - it is an absolute must! Some people got off part way through and they missed out. The journey across Gutan Lake and through the final locks into the Atlantic Ocean is spectacular. Truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The people were wonderful everyone was excited to be there, the staff were friendly, food was delicious and weather was perfect. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Thank you!
The trip was a gift for my husband. He loved it! Gus was wonderful with his commentary and with taking time to talk to individuals with questions. Weather was great and food and accommodations on the boat was exceptional. Amazing tour with great up close views of how the canal system works. Highly recommend.
This day long tour was long but well worth it. We got to experience all three sets of locks. Each was different. There was a guide on board who really helped us understand the canal history, present status and how the canal operates. Many people take the partial transfer but then they miss the last 3 level lock system.
What an amazing day! It is a long one but a fabulous 12 hours.
This cruise was so worth the money spent. It was amazing to see the sun rise on the pacific and set on the atlantic. we even went across the great divide on water. the only place in the world you can do these! I would never do the half day tour. I wanted to see the whole thing- ocean to ocean. The food was o.k. not great. The snack in the afternoon should have been a meal. We were glad we took extra snacks.
If you're going to traverse the canal, go ocean-to-ocean the last four hours was as interesting -- if not more -- than the first. However, be aware that it could be a long day. Ours was 12 hours for the canal trip alone, largely because of the timing of entering the canal with other ships. Nonetheless, it was an incredible journey and worth every minute. Our tour guide, Gus, was fantastic and really made the day a great informative event.
