Pierre was a great host. Seeing inside the 1700s cellar and the modern cheese room was fantastic. Rows of different cheeses, just fascinating, hearing the stories of the cheese makers and then tasting their cheeses just made it all the more special. I'd recommend this to anyone who loves their cheese, their wine, or wants to experience a little of unique Paris.
Pierre is extremely knowledgeable about cheese and wine. Delicious cheese and wine. Highly recommend.
I just wrote this review and it looks like Viator deleted it when I signed in, oh well - round two: This is a great thing to do for anyone who loves cheese. I am a chef and learned a lot about the process of cheese making as well as cheese tasting which I did not know was a practice much like wine tasting. The tour starts in front of a quaint cheese shop in what seems to be a very busy and non touristy part of town. Our guide Pierre introduced himself to our group of 8 and gave a brief overview. Then we stepped into the back of the building and down into the cheese cellar watch you step and if you're tall your head as well. Pierre explained the process of how cream and butter used to be derived using some old mechanical devices very cool. After we stepped into the dimly lit, high humidity cheese aging cooler where the process of cheese aging was explained in detail. We stepped back into the main cellar and sat down to learn how to properly taste 6 cheeses as well as 2 wines that came from Pierre's family vineyard which he used to work on before getting into cheese. This was a very delicious and educational event and our guide was knowledgeable and very friendly. At the end of the tasting we were invited to eat the remaining cheese. If you have room after there is a cool food hall behind the cheese shop.
Pierre was a fabulous host! Our group was 5, so only ones there which was nice. The science behind cheese making is remarkable and tasting the end result even better! Even the teenagers in our group had a great time..and when do they ever like anything..ha-ha. if time in Paris allows go on this tour!!
Loved it! Awesome experience, awesome tasting and Pierre was extremely knowledgeable and friendly! We will being doing it again the next time we're in Paris!
This was an amazing experience. Pierre's passion and knowledge is unmatched. He took the time to provide the historical context on not just the industry but that particular location as well. His attention to historical detail coupled with the location made me feel like I was a part of the team! The visit to the cellar, the detailed explanations of the various processes and cheeses, the impact of location down to the specificity around how to properly taste, made this tour was worth every penny and more!
This was an awesome experience and something different to do in Paris. Pierre was both knowledgable and passionate about cheese and wine and his experience made our tasting more enjoyable. We didn't like every cheese, but we learned a lot. I would recommend this to anyone who is visiting Paris.
Pierre was very knowledgeable about the cheese process and regions. He also paired the cheeses with wines, which he also knew a lot about. It was fun and delicious.
Possibly due to the attacks in Paris our class had only my wife and I attending. It was FANTASTIC! Great cheese, great wine and great information. He answered our questions and gave us suggestions for future travel. I think this was one of the highlights of the trip.
Pierre was fantastic!!! This was the best tour of my visit. I was hoping to find my favorite cheese and ended up loving all of them. I never knew I was eating cheese the wrong way! The wine pairings made me a believer. Pierre really knew his stuff about cheese and wine. The cellar was really cool. Really went out of his way to help me and I'm very appreciative. Don't miss this tour. Sign up for the food tour that's beforehand if you can--you just can't appreciate all that's behind the scenes until you do
Fantastic experience! The cheese was delicious, the information was awesome I learned lots of new interesting facts about cheese, and the wine pairings were interesting and great. Take this tour!
By far our most favorite thing we did in Paris! The shop is quaint and charming. The gentleman is a expert in cheese and wine. So personable and made us feel right at home. We learned a lot and certainly are a lot of cheese. We even bought some cheese and wine to enjoy down on the river another day.
This was fantastic - we had a great time sampling all the cheeses and wine in this local cheesemonger's cellar. Pierre was extremely knowledgable in both the cheese and wine industries and in getting the best experience out of tastings. Highly recommended!!
This was the perfect "hands on" way to learn about and enjoy the cheese of Paris. The shop is a two generation family affair (Father and Daughter) and the large cellar level under the store which houses the maturation room (wall to wall cheeses) is where everything takes place. Pierre, who also has a winery background, has set up the homey space with all sorts of displays that bring his story of the history of cheese to life. He is warm, extremely knowledgeable and made both the art and science of cheese making come to life in the "presentation" portion of the session. The cheese tasting part was fabulous and set up just like a great wine tasting. It included generous helpings of six very different (and fabulous) cheeses, baguette, apples (for palate cleansing) and both a red and white wine. As both a wine and cheese expert, Pierre provided great insights on the art of pairing wine and cheese, in addition to his guidance on the cheese tasting itself. It was a great way to savor one of the best Paris foods in a relaxing atmosphere, and the time of day/area made it easy to fit this activity into a packed schedule of site seeing. It is very near the Picasso and Pompidou museums in the Marais district.
We learned much about cheese production, tasting (an experience much like wine tasting) and pairing. Our host was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The location was a family run fromagerie, whose main objective seems to be producing quality cheese. The classes are a bonus.
The tour was very interesting and gave me a whole new understanding and appreciation of cheese and the craft of cheese making! The only slight negative is that it's expensive at over 130 107 for 2 people. We got to taste four wines and around 7-8 cheeses all of which were very good but the wine is only served as a taster so don't go expecting to drink a lot of wine!
The guide was excellent. Passionate and informative. Very nice mix of cheeses. Skimpy with the wine pairings, which was odd in light of the cost. Very small cheese aging room lacked the ambiance that we were expecting.
