What You Can Expect

Paris Catacombs Tour

See how Paris solved the problem of overflowing cemeteries in the 18th century on your Catacombs tour

Meet your knowledgeable guide at street level and prepare for a 1.5-hour guided tour of the Paris Catacombs. Head down 130 steps to reach the intricate network of tunnels, and follow your guide through what can be a confusing labyrinth.
Hear stories about how the Paris Catacombs were built as a massive underground cemetery, housing the bones of roughly six million people since the 18th century. Paris' dead were moved en masse from existing cemeteries to the Catacombs from 1786 to 1788. By the early 19th century, the Catacombs had already started to attract tourist attention.
In this tour, you'll have plenty of chances to ask questions of your guide as you walk through the tunnels. It's a unique opportunity to see a side of Paris most people miss.
After 1.5 hours touring the Catacombs, the tour comes to an end back at street level when you climb back up the stairs where you started the tour.

The tour is worth it. First, you skip the crazy long line. Second, you get way more information, history, and stories about the catacombs then doing it on your own.

A very cool experience. Not for people who have trouble walking as there are a lot of stairs down and uneven footing once you are in the catacombs. My kids thought this was good as well 14 and 16 years old.

A guided tour is definitely the way to go. You get access to areas you would not be able to see going solo. The guide was also very informative, providing insight into the catacomb's history, prominent persons, dates, and even the modern cataphiles.

This was awesome. You are down there for a little over 1.5 hours. You get to do a side tour that you would not be able to do without the tour. You get a VIP treatment and it was awesome. The line to get in was almost 2.5 hours but with this we waited maybe 5 minutes to get our tickets and see the catacombs. As stated you get to go into side tunnels that are not with the regular admission. It was great.

This was an awesome tour with a great tour guide. The line to buy tickets was very long so we really enjoyed being able to skip that. Our guide was very informative. I can't imagine this tour without a guide. I was worried about other people's reviews of the 83 steps at the exit, but it wasn't really that bad.

We really got the VIP treatment, the guide was excellent and we got to see things the general public did not get to see. Plus, we were so glad to skip the long waiting line outside! This was money well spent.
