What You Can Expect

Skip the Line: Giverny and Monet House Half-Day Trip from Paris

See where Monet lived on your trip to Giverny

Claude Monet, the father of the Impressionist art movement of the late 1800s, lived and worked just 1.5 hours outside of Paris in Giverny, where he spent his days indulging in his love of botany and gardening. On this half-day tour from Paris, you’ll visit his charming home, which sits on a large property made up of colorful gardens and, of course, the legendary lily pond.

Your tour starts with departure by coach in either the morning or afternoon (depending on option selected when booking) from the city center. When you arrive at Giverny, take a walk with your guide through the gardens in front of the house. Depending on the time of year, you’ll see an impressive array of vibrant blooms, as well as orchards. Then stroll over to the pond, dotted with the water lilies that so inspired Monet. Walk across the Japanese bridge made famous by his paintings, and enjoy the tranquil environment created by weeping willows and bamboo trees.

Then head to the house, where your guide will leave you to explore on your own. Donated by Monet’s son to the French Academy of Fine Arts in the ‘60s, the home was restored to its interior from the time when Monet lived there. As you walk through the kitchen, bedrooms, and other spaces, you’ll see some of the art that he collected, including Japanese garden prints. Then head to his studio and check out the large souvenir shop, where you can purchase reproductions of his paintings, pottery, and flower seeds.

Your tour ends with the drive back to Paris.

The guide wasn't that good.

Very pleasant half day. Just about the right amount of time to see the house and garden, The lily pond looked exactly as you would expect from Monet's paintings. I loved the casual look of the garden and though we visited late in the season, the garden was still very colorful. The house was different than I expected, but large and comfy looking. I adored the dining room and kitchen, they were fabulous! The bus ride and the guide were ok, I suppose it depends on who is guiding the tour and painting the picture and telling the story of Monet and Giverny. I would recommend this to people who want to see a rural countryside French village or lovers of Monet and his artwork or those that like to visit gardens or historic places.

If you love Monet's work, this is a must! The gardens were exceptional, and it is a great way to see and appreciate the beautiful inspirations for many of his works. We also enjoyed touring his home. The bus ride was very comfortable, and the guide provided some great info in route.

Excellent experience, nice drive into the country side. Giverny was wonderful albeit very crowded. Would NOT recommend an afternoon excursion since the grounds became busier the later it got.

The trip was well worth it and the gardens spectacular. Seeing the paintings of The Waterlillies at Musee de lOrangerie later give them all more meaning and appreciation.

Monet is my favorite painter and seeing the gardens was a Bucket List item for me. It was a moving experience to walk through were he painted. You feel like you are in the paintings. There was nothing about this tour that disappointed us!

Great from beginning to end! Tour guides extremely knowledgeable. Transportation was very nice...make sure to eat or have your coffee before as no food or drink was allowed in bus.

Vincent was wonderful! He is someone who truely enjoys what he does and made the day so pleasant. This is a well organized tour but there is still time on your own. The apple pie at the restaurant is delicious! This is a great and easy way to see this beautiful garden.

Great tour! Peter was knowledge and skilled in leading us, and the door-to-door transportation made it an easy excursion from Paris. Plus it was of course wonderful to see Monet’s home and gardens.
