Skip the Line: Notre Dame Cathedral, Towers and Ile de la Cité Walking Tour

Choose varies departure time and head to Ile de la Cité to meet your English-speaking guide. With your small group, explore the small island that is notably the epicenter of Paris and learn about the political and cultural importance of this area and the surrounding Seine River. Hear about ever-evolving Paris from antiquity and the dark ages to present day.

Then explore the breathtaking interior of Notre Dame Cathedral – a relic of Paris’ long and storied past. Originally built in 1160 by the Bishop of Paris, this glorious monument has seen nearly a millennia of turbulence including rioting Huguenots in the 16th century, destruction during the French Revolution and bullet spray during WWII.

Wander the grand space and admire the signature organs, vibrant stained glass windows and the elaborate stone work. Then jump the queue to the bell towers – which can last up to two hours! – and climb the 387 steps to the top. Stand in the footsteps of Victor Hugo’s infamous Hunchback of Notre Dame and see the city as he must have – amongst bells and spires, in the company of ominous yet protective gargoyles.

Our guide Laura was very, very good. We strolled down the side of the River Sienne with her and, though it was bitter cold, her narrative of the history of Paris was spell binding. As we continued into the Cathedral, Laura continued to bring us through the years til the present day. I highly recommend this tour and especially Laura as your guide.

This was a fantastic tour! Our guide, Avi, was not only a really lovely guy, but he was incredibly knowledgeable. He took note of our interests and provided us with information about the places we were visiting that was somewhat tailored to us and that you will not find in your average tourist information guide. We would highly recommend this tour and having Avi as your guide!

Highly recommend this tour. Davor was our tour guide and he did an awesome job despite all the rain! He is very informative and educated in all of Paris. The tour was only 7 people so it was more of a personal tour. Davor was really easy to speak to and even warned against pick-pocketers!

Abby was great. The weather was abysmal cold, rainy, but Abby made that a minor inconvenience. Once entering the cathedral, Abby told us where to look and what to look for. In doing so, she was able to focus our attention on things that made the experience both informative and holy a difficult feat to accomplish.

Loved the tour! Our tour guide Farret was a wealth of information. He provided historic, relevant and recent facts about the Ile de la Cite and Notre Dame Cathedral and the area. He added humor and managed to provide a current perspective that enabled the people participating in the tour to get a better feel of the history of the area. He answered all questions in detail. The tour did not involve lots of walking so people with any walking issues could easily have taken this tour. We only waited in a security line for about 10 minutes to get into the cathedral. It moved very quickly. The tour ended with a climb to the top of the tower of the cathedral. We decided not to attempt to climb the 387 steps to the top of the tower because I have shortness of breath and felt this would have been too much. We spoke to people who did the climb and they said the view was fantastic. We walked around the cathedral after the tour to simply admire the architecture of the building. I would recommend this tour. The tour guide was very prompt and had the audio head phone ready to distribute.
