We met our tour guide, William in the morning in Paris and our tour group took the RER train out to Versailles. We then headed to a small shop and each of us selected our own bicycle for the tour. William was amazingly organized with our group and was able to answer everyone's questions as we selected our bikes. We then rode our bikes to a village open air market to stock up on picnic supplies that we would have for lunch later in the afternoon. The market was stocked with farmers carrying every type of cheese, wine, baguettes, rolls, vegetables, meats, cooked sausage and chicken that you could ask for! We stored our picnic food in baskets attached to our bikes and rode on to Versailles. William kept our riding speed reasonable as we had ages from the very young to the middle age on our tour. Being on Bicycles allowed us to cover much more ground and see the gardens and small courts that you do not see on walking tours. William was very knowledgeable regarding the history of the French court and political intrigues of Versailles. We enjoyed eating our lunch in the same area and enjoying the same view of the palace that the French court would have seen in their day! Make sure you wear comfortable shoes and clothing for riding the bicycles. I would highly recommend this tour to a friend.
One of our best memories on our France vacation. Fun and informative for the entire family. Paddy was a great guide!
Johnny was a great guide! We had an absolutely beautiful day and saw some great areas that we wouldn't have seen if we were not on a bike. The local market was such a cool experience. One of the highlights from our entire European trip! I would take this tour again the next time I go to Paris! Great, great day even though it was cold out!!
excellent. great way to see the sights without the crowds. well worth it.
Biking was so much fun with an excellent guide. We got to stop at the open air market and it was great.
It was a perfect day for a bike ride the time that we were there. I enjoyed this tour very much. It was a wonderful experience observing and buying food at farmer's market. The picnic in Versailles, the information that was given by our tour guide, and amount of time we got to tour the palace (independently) were all fantastic. I truly enjoyed every piece of the tour. Highly recommended and very much worth it!
Pleasant and informative day. Enjoyed the market and gathering items for the picnic.
WONDERFUL AFTERNOON WITH A GREAT GUIDE! PICNIC BY THE CANAL WAS SPECIAL!
I totally enjoyed this tour. The grounds and gardens were beautiful to view and the picnic lunch by the river was a charm. It gives a more comprehensive view of the vastness of the grounds at Versailles as well as learning about the foibles of the various Louis' who occupied the chateau. It was like getting a history lesson on the events that led up to the French Revolution as well as a window into what it was like to live like a king and queen in that era.
This tour is a great way to explore Versailles. Our tour guide Declan was very knowledgable and brought a lot of color to the history of the palace. The highlight of the tour was exploring the garden behind the Petit Trianon where Marie Antoinette built a replica of a local village.
An amazing way to visit Versailles and its surroundings. Out guide was great, very nice and knowledgeable. The bikes were in great condition and easy to ride.
We stopped at a local market to buy local food and wine for lunch.
My 2 sisters and I highly recommend the Fat Tire Versailles by Bike Day Tour. It was hands-down the highlight of our 4 day trip to Paris. Our guide Louis was fun and knowledgeable and had a good sense of humour. The bikes were well maintained and it was indeed a great way to see the enormous grounds. We went in early October and while it was a bit chilly with the wind, it was sunny and perfect for sitting down to a picnic. They provided a tarp for us to sit on which worked well, we had brought a blanket just in case. It is a wonderful way to get around the grounds and there are only a few places where it was a bit harrowing going through the town in traffic - however Louis instructed us on how to DOMINATE and we were all fine.
There is a bit of walking with the tour as well so you get your exercise in. But again, I would highly recommend it as a tour not to be missed for those who have no mobility issues.
Daniel our tour guide was excellent. very friendly with much knowledge and a great sense of humour.
the scenery was picturesque and we loved the food at Versailles market. our 12 year old son loved whizzing along the garden trails ahead of us on his bike and we found the palace so magnificent that we will have to go back again. we certainly saw more by bike than what we would have bothered to see if we had gone just to the palace. a must!
It was fantastic and our guide was great. I would definitely recommend this tour.

Nick was a great guide! The market recommendations, history and picnic on the grounds were the highlight for us! The palace is our course impressive, but also so crowded it is hard to take your time.
I had biked through Versailles with my daughter 15 years ago and decided to take my son when we went to Paris this year. I decided to use this tour company and I was so happy I did. The guide loved French history and kept our interest as he fully detailed the history of Versailles and the people of the era. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting to see more than the palace. I also enjoyed going to the market to buy our lunch. It was an added bonus. My 25 year old son really enjoyed this as well.
Nick is awesome! We had a bit of rain that day but fat tire bikes sells ponchos for one euro. Loved biking the grounds, seeing sheep grazing, learning the history from Nick, going to market and having a picnic while gazing at Versailles. Enjoyed this more than the palace except for the hall of mirrors. Highly recommend. Lovely day.
We had a super time. Nick was a great tour leader and very knowledgeable of French history. The trip to the market for our picnic lunch was fun, meeting the vendors and enjoying a Saturday morning ritual with local residents. Loved it!!
Versailles is truly one of the most impressive places I have ever seen. I agree with our guide the only way to visit is on a bike. We were able to enjoy much of the surrounding area which would not have been available if we merely visited the palace on foot.
We had such a great time exploring the grounds and shopping at the local market. Our guide, Nate was spot on with the pace of the tour and provided interesting anecdotes as we biked around the property. We couldn't recommend this tour enough!
