What You Can Expect

Versailles by Bike Day Tour

The Palace of Versailles, France

Meet your guide at a central location in Paris and take the RER train together for the 20-minute ride to Versailles. After picking up your bike a short distance from the Palace of Versailles, continue to a nearby village market to purchase baguettes, cheese, ham, wine and whatever else you’d like to feast on (own expense) for your picnic later on in the day.

The gardens and forests of Versailles span 1,976 acres (800 hectares), and are crisscrossed by a network of picturesque trails and tree-lined paths. Follow your guide and leave behind the pedestrians as you explore parts of the grounds that few venture out to, including Marie Antoinette's country-style Hameau, the Petit Trianon and the Grand Trianon. You’ll cover about 10 miles (16 km) at a relaxed pace.

Arrive at a lovely secluded section of the Grand Canal that only those on bicycles can reach easily, and settle in for your picnic lunch. Get a kick out of the fact that you are sitting on the same spot where Louis XIV, XV and XVI enjoyed their meals when they wished to admire their spectacular palace from the outside.

Then, cycle back toward the palace and spend about 1.5 hours inside. With your provided audio-guide, learn about the lives of the French monarchy before their removal from power by the 1798 Revolution. See the King's State Apartments and Chapel, and walk through the unforgettable Hall of Mirrors, where the treaty ending WWI was signed.

Your Versailles bike tour ends with a return to Paris via RER train.

Visiting the palace was nice, but going to the market in town to buy our picnic supplies and exploring the grounds of Versailles by bike was even better. Our tour guide Luke added tot he fun.

Great tour. This is the best way to see ALL of Versailles. Walking the gardens would be almost impossible. At the end of our bike tour, the guide drops us off in front of the main building and we entered with tickets included in the tour.

This is a great way to see Versailles- especially the grounds. This was especially a great tour with teenage kids- a good way to get them interested in history and seeing the sights. Our guide was Fraser, he was awesome!

Valentin (our very knowledgeable Russian-Australian guide) shared his extensive knowledge of Versailles and French history with our group. Given the warm day, it may have been better (for some in the group) if the history lessons were imparted in the shade. A terrific trip, highly recommend.

The bike trip to the Versailles Palace an absolute standout and the host Nate was terrific in his hospitality and his knowledge of the French history.
This trip combined seeing the Palace with skip the queue but even better covered the extensive gardens which most people don and #39;t see. A standout trip.
