We had the best day of our cruise trip thanks to Pixida tours and Telia. She picked us up on the agreed point on time and promtly we head towards the city castle. We were picked on an air conditioned modern 4x4car and were welcomed with a bottle of cold water and a xmas cookie. At this point we knew the tour was going to be great.
The Castle of Kalamata has overgrown stones that represent millennia of history, containing remnants of Mycenaean walls and of the acropolis of ancient Pharai on which the Byzantines and then Franks built fortresses. We had around 90min time to explore the walls and stones and had a fantastic view over the city. Telia gave us some printout/leaftles information about the castle which was very appreciated.
Afterwards we went to Sparta. The road from Kalamata to Sparta through Taygetos mountain is an exceptionally wild yet beautiful drive in Greece that makes this tour special, however, are the less-known sites, that are not as accessible or easy to find, and the walks which require local knowledge. We want to go back to explore the area a bit better.
It takes about 2 hours to get to Sparta but the scenery is so amazing full stories, history and tales that makes it an incredible experience.Sparta ancient city/ruins are not that easy to find, not unless you have a guide. We had a quick look on the modern city and had time for a coffee and of course a photo with Leonidas statue which is a must if you go there
Returning to Kalamata was also pleasant and Telia suggested us a place were we could try the local food and tried a shoot of the local drink Ouzo. Also, guided us to a local shop where we got the famoust and best olives in the world, Kalamata Olvies and also bought few local sweets.
It was a great day due to out perfect tour Guide, it really made a difference while enjoying the experience.
I defintely recommend Telia and I hope to go back to keep exploring the area.
