Journey back in time on a guided, 1-hour carriage ride through the tree-lined streets of historic Philadelphia. Visit Philly’s Independence National Historical Park, Society Hill and Old City. This leisurely ride features famous locations like the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, the Betsy Ross House, Elfreth Alley, and much more.
  • Multiple times offered throughout the day
  • Popular choice with kids
  • Led by a local guide
Discover Philadelphia's history and famous attractions on board a horse-drawn carriage. Departing from the carriage stand at 5th and Chestnut Streets across from Independence Hall in downtown Philly, travel back in time on a historical ride through the city. The guide will share stories behind every passing landmark location, including Independence National Historical Park, the Liberty Bell, and Independence Hall.

Visit the Society Hill neighborhood, with the largest collection of original 18th- and early 19th-century residential architecture of any location in the United States; and Old St. Joseph's Church, the first Roman Catholic church ever built in Philadelphia.

In Old City, see the famed Betsy Ross House, where it is believed the seamstress and flag maker lived when she created the first American Flag; famous Elfreth Alley, the oldest residential street in the US; plus the Philadelphia Mint (aka the United States Mint at Philadelphia), Benjamin Franklin’s grave at Christ Church Burial Ground, the nonpartisan National Constitution Center and much more.

An educational and informative tour

Our family of 6 enjoyed this tour. Our guide Bill was pleasant and very informative. Our 2 smaller children enjoyed petting Louise after the tour.
Great Tour Guide but the booking info is inaccurate

We had a wonderful guide and ride but the website is misleading. For one, you book the day, but they don't have a way to book a time, so you have to just wait until a carriage is free. The website doesn't make it clear that the rides must END by 3:30 PM - it sounds like you can start a ride anytime from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM but the last ride actually needs to start at 2:30 PM to end in time to be off the streets by 3:30 for rush hour. Finally, we waited at 5th and Chestnut for a carriage like the website and the office staff said, but the carriages actually park on 6th Street between Market and Chestnut and you can't readily see them if you stand at 5th and Chestnut. We waited for 20 minutes before the guard at Independence Hall asked if we were waiting for an Uber and correctly told us to talk over to 6th Street and down to Market. Also, don't forget to print your ticket and bring it with you.

This tour lasted 45 min. instead of the full hour. The guide was ok, but now as good as many tour guides I've had before.

The carriage ride is so gorgeous! It takes you along such pretty streets in Philly. The horses are beautiful. We took an hour ride, and the scenery was just picture perfect. It was one of our favorite experiences of our trip!

It was a nice way in seeing all of the historical sights in the city. The guide was a little inexperienced (hence the 3 star) but I'm sure there are many experienced guides out there.

Our hotel was not super near where the carriages are parked so I was happy that there was a complimentary shuttle service to and from the carriage. Our guide and horse Barney were both excellent.
