What You Can Expect

Phang Nga Bay Sea Cave Tour from Phuket Including Lunch and Dinner

Explore the caves of Phang Nga Bay by sea kayak.

Phang Nga Bay lies within Ao Phang Nga National Park, a protected area that is home to diverse land and sea animals as well as lush plant life. Get away from the crowds to explore the bay with experienced local guides who take you to pristine places that most visitors don't see.

Start off in the late morning with pickup and transfer from your Phuket hotel. Ride in an air-conditioned minivan to the pier where your motorboat awaits, then enjoy a light lunch as you glide across the bay to your first destination. When you arrive, receive a short safety briefing then transfer into a sturdy inflatable kayak that is piloted by your guide and seats one or two people.

Your guide paddles your kayak into the sea caves, known as hongs (rooms) in Thai. Listen to informative commentary about the rock formations and hidden lagoons that you discover and learn about the flora and fauna of the region. Visit several  spots in the marine park, and enjoy time to rest and snack on the motorboat in between expeditions into the caves. Keep your eyes alert for wildlife such as macaques, water monitors, kingfishers, mudskippers, egrets, sea eagles and brahminy kites.

Watch the sunset from the water as the day winds down. Your guide then explains the Thai holiday Loi Kratong, when people create small floating bowls (kratong) made from banana leaves and decorated with flowers and candles. Make one of your own, and set it afloat on the water.

While you make your way back toward the shore, feast on a buffet Thai dinner cooked on the boat by the crew, who shop daily for high-quality fresh ingredients. Return to the pier two hours after sunset and transfer by minivan back to your hotel.

When you read others say this is a must do, you might be like meh I'd rather just go the Phi Phi Islands and swim. You'd be wrong. This is truly an amazing, jaw dropping, once in a life time experience. You're on these kayaks, with a tour guide behind you paddling and guiding you through massive caves and under islands to get to some great destinations. All I can say is bring your camera! You don't get too wet on this tour but a swim suit underneath some clothes is recommended. The guides are THE BEST. Great group of guys that try really hard to make you happy. Bring some cash to tip cause these guys deserve it. Our guide was Chalee and took time to show us all the small things of the area including wildlife and secluded areas. The food and fruit was great and the after kayaking time was great. You just have to see this for yourself. By far the best tour I've taken around the world.

I can honestly say this was the highlight of my trip. The bus service was prompt in picking me up in the morning in an air conditioned van, and thankfully, sent out many vans to pick up guests so that the car rides were not longer than 40 minutes per group. You quickly board the boats, but wait just a few minutes at a shop upon arrival at the marina. I strongly recommend you buy a plastic phone holder if like me you are using it as your photo-taking apparatus. It was only 100 baht in the store, so very reasonable and absolutely indispensable for the day!
You board a bus to ride down the pier to board the two story boat, and are served lunch right away as you pull away from the marina. I do recommend you are at leasy physically able to climb a ladder to participate in this tour, as it is necessary to get to the second level of the boat. Lunch was spring rolls, vegetables, various drinks chilled glass water bottles, green tea, fruit punch, etc, fried noodles, etc. and was pretty tasty.
You then ride about 1hr approximately to the islands. The staff which speak excellent English and Chinese as there are many Chinese guests, do a great job of telling you exactly what the itinerary will be for the day. My experience included the following:
1. Lunch
2. First cave: bat cave - cave filled with bats but you are far away from them and they are harmless, and traveling through the cave to explore the inner island's lagoon, to see mudskippers. It seriously looks like jurassic park its incredible.
3. Second cave: Diamond cave - has stalactite formations that sparkle like diamonds, truly a sight to see.
4. Dinner - Chicken, fish, fried rice, fruit, etc. More food than you can imagine and was very tasty.
5. Third Cave - bio-luminous cave where you can see the glowing organisms in the water.

You also get 40 minutes of free time to either borrow one of the sea canoes to do your own paddling in the bay or to swim near to boat. B
