What You Can Expect

Phang Nga Bay Tour from Phuket by Traditional Junk Boat

Longtail boat

Enjoy a relaxing cruise aboard a traditional wooden junk, a type of Chinese sailing ship that has been in use for centuries.

Get a morning start with hotel pickup in Phuket, then relax in a climate-controlled minivan on a scenic one-hour drive to the pier. After a warm welcome and safety briefing from the crew, pick your favorite spot on the large boat deck and enjoy the sights as your boat sets off.

The turquoise-colored waters of Ao Phang-Nga National Marine Park are sprinkled with small islands, including famous spots such as James Bond Island (Koh Khao Phing Kan). Stop offshore and transfer to a longtail boat to see the location filming of the legendary 1974 James Bond movie The Man with the Golden Gun took place.

Have some free time to swim or walk along the sandy beach, then hop back into the longtail boat to visit Koh Panyi, another small island that is home to a picturesque fishing village. Established more than 200 years ago by Malay fishermen, the Muslim village features typical homes, a mosque and a school that rest on stilts above the water. The island gained fame in Thailand for its floating soccer field, conceived of and built by local kids, who then created an award-winning youth soccer team.

Continuing by longtail boat, peek into a sea cave and wind through a mangrove forest before returning to the junk for lunch. Your crew serves up a delicious Thai buffet that you can nibble while cruising to Lawa Island. At Lawa, have time to swim and relax on the beach.

Your captain returns you to shore in the late afternoon, then your minivan returns you to your hotel in Phuket where your tour ends.

Overall good experience. Like the faux 'traditional' junk boat experience, great way to see the islands, etc.

Pros: relaxing way to spend the day sailing around the islands. Service on the ship was friendly, prompt and attentive. Reasonable food, snacks and fruit. The opportunity to stop and swim in the open water was fun.

Cons: James Bond Island is crowded and a gigantic tourist trap. For some reason people brought kids and a newborn on this tour - it is NOT for kids and it certainly does NOT contribute to a pleasant experience. The floating sea village is nothing special, and the tour in general seemed very focused on German tourists, English-speaking was secondary.
