Overview

Spend a day exploring ancient Maya cities and an underground pool on a 12-hour tour from Playa del Carmen to Chichen Itza, Cenote Hubiku, and Ek Balam. Visiting both Maya sites offers the chance to experience the most iconic ruins in the Yucatan, then tour a lesser-visited gem with vivid frescoes and a fascinating history. This 12-hour tour includes pickup and drop-off in Playa del Carmen, entrance fees, breakfast and lunch, and it’s limited to 15 people for a personalized experience.
  • 12-hour Maya city and cenote tour
  • Visit a UNESCO Site
  • Learn about Maya history and culture
  • Swim in an underground pool
  • Breakfast and lunch included
  • All entrance fees included
  • Pickup and drop-off in Playa del Carmen
Get an early start on the day with pickup between 5:30am and 6:45 am, then enjoy a light breakfast during the 113-mile (182-km) trip to Chichen Itza, an ancient Maya city that’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Upon arrival at Chichen Itza, tour the sprawling complex with the guide, beginning with the Kukulkan Castle: also known as The Pyramid, this dramatic temple is aligned with the seasons, and a feathered serpent appears in shadow during the equinoxes. Continue to the ball court and the rest of the site, including the astronomical observatory, “The Church,” and more.

Following your time at Chichen Itza, travel to the Cenote Hubikku, an underground pool that’s perfect for a cooling swim. This is one of the many caverns that dot the Yucatan’s limestone plateau, and it’s often illuminated by a shaft of clear sunlight.

The final stop of the day is Ek Balam, where you can climb the acropolis to follow painted scenes from the Maya underworld, see the astronomers’ reflecting pools, and learn about the re-discovery of the site. Ek Balam is a less-visited site that’s still surrounded by thick jungle, and offers an explorer’s experience of Yucatan archeology. This 12-hour tour concludes with return transfer to Playa del Carmen, and drop-off at your hotel.

A well organized day trip. Everything was smooth and easy. Our guide Carmen was very knowledgeable and very friendly. Our driver Hugo was professional and kind. Highly recommended!

Overall a great day of touring with Francisco and the professional driver. Very full day though with lots of driving. Small group and van which made the tour a much more personal experience. Abit late being picked up due to traffic but got away early as promised and early arrival at Chichen Itza. Francisco is very knowledgeable and passionate about Mayan history, culture and the sites visited. A light breakfast bananas, cookies and juice were provided en route while Fransisco did some upfront briefing. It was great to be early to Chichen Itza to minimize the crowds. 1 hour with Fransisco and a little less than 1 hour on our own. Would have liked to have been left with a paper copy of the map of the site as we spent some time lost trying to find the observatory and other buildings. Many of the posted maps were worn and not legible. Would have liked more time at Chichen Itza but the time available was comparable to what was promised by most other tours.
appreciated the cold water bottles through the day!
Cenote Hubiku was beautiful to see. We prepped for a dip but it was too cool for us especially relative to the 30C temps that day. Wish we hadn't chickened out as it was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Lunch was good - decent selection and quality
Ek Balam was especially interesting and Francisco provided alot more info on the challenges of archeology in such jungle sites. The stucco frescoes are stunning and worth the climb to the top of the main pyramid. Wonderful site. Again about 1 hour with guide and then 45min on our own maps again would have been welcome
Again, be prepared for alot of driving from site to site sometimes at abit faster speeds than used to in Canada on multi-use roads and a very long but fascinating day.

My husband and I had a great time on this tour. Our guide, Wilbert, was very knowledgable and passionate about the Mayan culture. The highlight was seeing Chichen Itza in person and cenote Huniku definitely surpassed my expectations. Some constructive feedback I would like to give is making this tour language specific. We were in a Spanish/English combo so having to listen to the information twice felt redundant and took up more time.

Amazing full day of Mayan experience. Arriving early at Chichen Itza is a blessing, as the immense crowds start by the time you are leaving. The cenote is very unique, refreshing, and beautiful and lunch at the restaurant is very good home cooked authentic Mexican food... very fresh and tasty. Ek Balum is lesser known than Chichen Itza but no less spectacular. It was a fantastic, low key way to end the day. The trip from the Riviera Maya is long, and the day a full one, but well worth it. The guide was spectacular knowledgeable, personable, very relaxed, and spectacularly accomodating to a bilingual English/Spanish group. I would not want to do these places without a guide as grascious and brilliant as ours was. The transportation and driver was excellent, and rounded off a great experience we will not forget.

This was an excellent experience from start to finish.
The company organizing the tour was Yalku Tours. We were very lucky to have a very knowledgeable, enthusiastic guide called Francisco. The added pleasure and bonus was the fact the he was a Maya Mexican whose mother language is Mayan. He know a lot and conveyed well the main historic facts. The driver Cesar was polite, cortGeous and a very careful driver. Over all this was an excellent experience and I would strongly recommend this particular tour - a good mixture of history, pleasure and new experiences.

Abraham was a great guide, did his best! I definitely recommend to book this trip as you will see a lot , you will learn a lot and in reality it is amazing to see what the Mayans could build that time. I also recommend to take some pictures during the speech of the guide, because after that you have max 20 min to look around so for example we didn't even had time to see the observatory at Chichen Itza due to lack of time and that the area is quite big to walk through in 20 mins. However I understand that we had limited time on each place otherwise we would not finish and come back to the hotel till late evening.

Wonderful tour. Carmen was a fantastic guide. You really do get to see a lot in one day, and all the info about ancient Maya culture and religion was really interesting. The Hubiku cenote was absolutely beautiful!
