Meet a driver at your hotel in Tulum or Playa del Carmen, then travel to the Tulum archeological site, an ancient Maya city set at the edge of the Caribbean Sea. Upon arrival at the site, join an archeologist guide for a 3-hour tour of the ruins, learning what’s known—and what remains a mystery—about the ancient Maya people.
After a boxed lunch at Tulum, continue to Xel-Há or Xcaret; you’ll have the option to choose between the two adventure parks when booking.
If you opt for Xel-Há, the afternoon is all about water, and the sprawling park features fresh rivers that pour into the Caribbean. Activities includes swimming and snorkeling in caves, trying a high cliff jump, and watching for iguanas on the jungle trails. Bookings to Xel-Há also feature an all-inclusive buffet dinner in the resort’s restaurant.
Choose Xcaret for a mix of nature, wildlife, and culture. You can spot sea turtles that are being prepared for release into the wild, walk through a massive aviary, visit a colonial-style hacienda house, and swim in a crystal-clear underground river. Cultural performances are held throughout the day, and Xcaret has its own ancient ruins on the property. Food and drink are available for purchase at Xcaret, but are not included in this tour. At the end of the day, meet the driver for the return trip to your hotel.
