Martin and Marco from Amigo Tours were highly knowledgeable. The tour included pick up from hotel, bike rides between the ruins, lunch and cenote visit. Remember to ask about life jackets for the cenote. The guide did not mention the life jackets prior to cenote visit. Cenote is very deep and somewhat dim. The lunch buffet was delicious! They did a very good job of keeping us on track and we squeezed in a lot of activities. highly recommended!!
Collected from RIU Playacar at 6.50am by a minibus and taken to a filling station were we met other travellers, we then travelled to Coba, we arrived early enough and had a trouble free entry and given an in-depth commentary by the guide, we were then offered push bikes but we took the offer of been pedaled by a local lad for 100, and when the others caught up I believe we made the right decision,, hot and humid and pedalling bikes! we were then given the opportunity to climb the pyramid which I took which resulted in my leg muscles taking 3 days to recover!, please bear in mind it is HOT, then off to a restaurant, drinks were charged as extra, then off to a ceynote, overall a very good trip.
Another great excursion!! Our driver for the day was helpful and very friendly. The ruins were breathtaking and the view from up top is great. Beware of getting down, a bit tricky with the smooth rocks. Definitely get there before the crowds to avoid the congestion going up and down.
We had a fabulous time!! Our guide was amazing and riding bikes was a blast. Would highly recommend this trip to everyone!!
Wonderful trip! We were picked up on time, taken to the ruins, rode bikes which was a blast!, walked the ruins - also exciting, took a dip in a deep cenote and enjoyed an authentic Mexican lunch. Our tour guide was very informed and helpful. We had two elderly family members as part of our group. They used the rickshaw option to transport them around the ruins. This is an extra 4 for two plus a generous tip. The guide and driver were extremely patient and cooperative in tending to our family members' special needs.
As mentioned in other reviews - wait for a confirmation email the night before that will confirm pick up time. Bring some extra bottled water. They do stop at a store on the way for a bathroom break and there is water for sale at the Cenote.
This is a great excursion for a wonderful price. You won't be disappointed!
My tour was excellent, out tour guide name is Marco. He is very knowledgeable and made the tour very interesting.
This tour was exactly what we were looking for during our vacation in Playa del Carmen. We wanted a chance to tour Mayan ruins, but didn't want to give up a ton of beach time while we were away from our resort. The tour picked us up at 7am and we were back by 2pm! Never did we feel rushed, and since we only had one other person with us, we could go at our own pace. Climbing Coba was an experience I'll never forget, and you get the opportunity to learn so much history from the archeologist! I was unsure about the cenote swim- but ended up loving it! Even if you aren't a big swimmer, go down into the cenote just to see the views- amazing! The authentic Mexican lunch was very good, too! The only downside we had was that our driver did not speak any English, but he was very resourceful using his phone translator, calling another driver over speaker phone in order to communicate when needed. All our other tour guides in Coba spoke perfect English! Highly recommend this excursion!
Awesome tour. Our Archaeologist, Alberto, was very knowledgeable and interesting. All costs were included, lunch, entrance fees, rickshaw bicycles. Alberto spoke on the history of the Mayan culture as we travelled to the Coba Ruins. It was great being able to climb the ruins before people from the 5 buses did.
Please note....we found out that does not pickup at the lobby of our hotel Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda. There was confusion on whether pickup was at the lobby or gate. We mentioned this to the front desk and valet attendant. The driver, Israel, and Alberto were good enough to contact the hotel when we were not at the gate and then waited for us to walk out.
We booked the early morning Coba tour with Viator which contracted with -our group was led by archaeologist guide Marco and driver Julio. They were outstanding in every way. We stayed one step ahead of the crowd all day by biking between the different sites at Coba. The cost of the bikes was included in this tour. Marco was friendly and extremely knowledgeable and welcomed questions. He provided great information in a way that engaged the entire group including our youngest son, aged 7. He and the entire group was patient with our slower pace with the 3 kids, but still managed to keep us on schedule and ahead of the crowd. Climbing the pyramid was an amazing experience that we will never forget and the views were breathtaking. After Coba, our group went to a nearby cenote for a quick swim. There were changing rooms and showers to wash off the bug spray before going in the water. The water was clear and cold and very deep--there were two high platforms to jump from that the kids loved. Right after we finished, a huge group arrived while we had the cenote largely to ourselves. We then had a buffet lunch at a Ki-Janal, a restaurant right near the front gates of Coba. The food was authentic Mayan, and quite good. The staff was also amazingly kind to our sons who daringly and foolishly took bites of hot peppers--they provided all sorts of natural remedies--the limes with salt seemed to do the trick. A very worthwhile trip.
AMAZING!!!! Alfredo was knowledgable and patient with all of the people on the tour. It was a small group - so we got time to spend looking around the ruins, climbing the pyramid and of course photographing them. He gave us the option of the bicycle taxi as well. We did not take advantage of swimming in the cenote - but did go down to see it and watch the others swim. The buffet lunch was authentic and very good. Israel, the driver was the best one yet!!!
if you want to see Coba the right way - book this tour!!!
This was a fantastic tour and well worth it. One word of warning- Your first confirmation email will list a 6.30am pick up time. Check your email the day before the tour as they will give you an updated pick up time once they know the locations and number of people in your tour. I didn't realize that, so we waited over an hour in the lobby for pick up. Not the fault of the tour provider at all. There was a driver and a separate tour guide in the van, so he spent a large portion of the drive telling us about Coba, the Mayan civilization and the Yucatan. It was complete with visual aids and very interesting and informative.
We were some of the first people to arrive at Coba, so we enjoyed quiet biking through the jungle on the Mayan roads. The bike rental is included. If you are physically unable to bike, there are people who can transport you via rickshaw. It's quite a way to the pyramids and other ruins.
You only have two stops- the ball court and the big pyramid. They allot you time to climb the pyramid, if you wish. Definitely worth it. By arriving early, there's barely anyone there. At the bike drop off point, there are more ruins and another pyramid to view.
Alberto was very knowledgeable and one of my favorite tour guides I've ever had. It was nice to have an expert scholar on the subject matter.
Arturo and Julio were superb!
We highly enjoyed our outing with them, seeing the Mayan ruins, to include lunch, along with swimming in Cinotes, and lastly, shopping.
We had a small group of 6 people and it really helped us collectively move through the vast Coba site effectively, using the bicycles. The physical site was amazing. And the walk to the top of the pyramid was the highlight.
Do this journey!
Great tour, friendly staff, fascinating place. It may not have the same scale as Chichen Itza however its much more peaceful and still boasts some great monuments. Well worth it
The tour was very nice. Arturo was knowledgeable, I liked that at Coba the bikes were included
The Cenote was really cool. There was a place to change into swim suits
Lunch was good, I think a beverage should have been included. They wouldn't even serve water unless purchased
I would suggest to take 2 waters per person, don't forget your towel, bug spray, money trips shopping
The archaeological guide, Ulises. Was excellent. He was soooo knowledgable and friendly. We had a great time. The tour to the coba ruins and the cenote and the buffet were all superb. Thank you ulises!!
Awesome! if you do 1 tour while in the Yucatan, this 1 is it. History, culture and swimming in a cenote and authentic buffet lunch included. Go early, afternoon would be way too hot to climb Nohoch Mul
We loved it! We would not have learned half as much about the ruins without our fabulous tour guide. And the cenote! How cool! This is great half-day trip for the money.
Wake up early and take this tour. It was only four of us in the tour as compared to 15-20 in the later tours. We were given more attention and more detail to the many wonders of the ruins. We got to the pyramid first, took great pictures, we were the first ones to the cenote so it was like our own private cave pool, and got first dibs to the lunch buffet which was delicious. Our guide Arturo was the best. 10/10 would go again
Although it was still very hot in the morning, it wasn't as hot as it would have been later in the day. Plus we had the ruins to ourselves AND you can climb the ruin! Our small group was headed to the coolness of the cenote just as the other tour groups arrived to start their climb.
We took the tour with my husband and I and our two kids 10 and 6. We had special early access into Coba and our tour guide, Alberto was so knowledgeable. When we climbed the ruin, because we got there early, our tour of 8 people were the only ones there. The cenote tour was amazing too! Awesome!!
Fantastic Tour! Our guide/archeologist was phenomenal! That was the most informative tour I've ever done...I will definitely look for more Archeologist guided tours. Sad they are closing climbing to the top but after seeing the condition of the ruins it makes sense. Go while you can still climb!
Good tour with a knowledgeable guide. We were the only English-speaking family on the tour, so his comments were in both Spanish and English. His English was a bit broken and my kids had trouble understanding some of what he said.
Going early is so worth it. We were one of only two groups at the main ruin. When we left around 11, the parking lot was full of buses and long lines of people waiting to get in.
The cenote portion was incredible. Next time we go, we'll definitely do an all-day cenote trip.
It should be mentioned somewhere in the tour description about the bike ride from the entrance to the ruins. The mountain bikes didn't have any gears, so you had to make the ride in only one gear. While we were fine, older or less in shape people might have a difficult time. They did have rickshaw-type bikes with a driver, which cost extra.
This was a very good tour led by a knowledgeable and friendly guide. Overall a very worthwhile experience.
