What You Can Expect

Mississippi Avenue Food Tour

North Mississippi Avenue Food Tour

Meet your local guide at Mee Sen Thai Eatery on North Mississippi Avenue for some south-east Asian indulgence. Sample delicious, authentic Thai food with a local twist such as peek gai tod marinated chicken wings and fresh spring rolls, complemented by homemade blueberry soda or a mee-sen sangria. Come hungry and enjoy the abundant samplings.

Next, head north on Mississippi for a 1-mile walk to discover some of the city’s food hotspots. Depending on the day and the whimsy of the group, stops may include the eclectic Mississippi Marketplace, an iconic food cart pod and home of Koi Fusion and 503 Burger, or The Meadow, a boutique shop that appeals to true foodies with its selection of exotic salts, chocolates, and bitters — a great place for a souvenir!

Along the way, admire Mississippi’s historic brick-and-mortar masonry, classic Benson Bubble water fountains, and quirky shops that define the area’s new culture wave, such as the light bulb shop featured in an episode of Portlandia.

Your last stop is Ruby Jewel Scoops, home of decadent homemade ice cream sandwiches. Try two signature flavors before heading out to continue exploring independently. Your tour wraps up just in time for happy hour, so head to Mississippi Studios or Stormbreaker Brewing for some music, conversation and great local beer.

We had a great time on this tour. Mississippi Avenue is a unique and interesting redeveloped section of Portland with lots of great, independently owned restaurants, bars and shops and a great sense of community. We have done a number of food tours, and this would surely rank among the best. Our guide, Anna, was enthusiastic and well acquainted with the neighborhood. At a few of the stops the business owners were there and shared with us their passion for what they were doing and their commitment to the neighborhood. The food ranged from burgers with homemade spicy ketchup, to Thai, to a boutique that carries life's greatest gourmet pleasures, including artisan finishing salts and single origin chocolate from around the world. A great food adventure. If it is not possible to tour, do visit Mississippi Avenue on your own.

An excellent tour! The food was excellent I suggest skipping lunch if you take the 1PM tour, because you'll receive more than a meal's worth. Tour guide was great, and very knowledgeable about Mississippi Avenue's history.

I have been on three foodie tours in two different cities so far and this is my favorite. The guide makes the difference in the experience of the tour. Anyone can lead you to different establishments but the knowledge and history of the location is a important part of any tour.
