What To Expect

Your day trip begins early with hotel pickup from downtown Portland. You'll embark en coach for an exhilarating morning drive through the Columbia River Gorge. Catch spectacular views of the Cascade Mountains that flank the river and glimpse a waterfall or two.

Along the forested highway, visit Oregon’s famous waterfall Multnomah Falls. Join your guide and fellow visitors on Benson Bridge and snap a picture of the 611-foot-tall cascade of water as it crashes below.

Next, continue to Hood River, a picturesque valley town renowned as a prime destination for wind sports. Watch kiteboarders and windsurfers skate across the water as you learn about Hood River’s rich environmental and cultural history. Then take some free time for lunch, shopping or tasting local wines.

The final stop on your guided tour is the glorious Mount Hood, Oregon’s tallest peak at 11,249 feet (3,429 meters) and Timberline Lodge. Take a mountain walk or a self-guided visit through the renovated lodge that was once the setting for the classic film The Shining.

Your day concludes back in Portland by early evening.

Traveler Tips

This tour is a great option for folks who are in Portland for just a few days but don't want to rent a car but *do* want to see more of the state.
Just need to remember to bring a jacket as cold on top of mountain.
I highly recommend this excursion for a full day of seeing some of the essential sights.

This was a wonderful tour. John is very dynamic and informative which made the tour that much better. Views were beautiful! Downloading them here was difficult since all my photos were over the MB size.
Didn't visit the place of the photo that advertises the tour :(
Sandra_S, May 2022
I was not satisfied with the tour, I thought we would go to the place where the picture of the tour was taken and we did not, we were only 30 mins in Mt Hood and just in a hotel. Disappointed about the part. The tour guide was great tho!
Response from Host, May 2022
Hello, The hotel you are referencing is Timberline Lodge which is listed in the itinerary and was constructed in 1937. This beautiful 55,000 square foot structure rises out of a pristine alpine landscape and is still being used for its original intent – a magnificent ski lodge and mountain retreat for everyone to enjoy. Legendary and awe-inspiring, it's a tribute to the rugged spirit of the Pacific Northwest. Declared a National Historic Landmark in 1977, Timberline Lodge is one of Oregon’s most popular tourist attractions, drawing nearly two million visitors every year.
Needed more time for Photo Opportunities
A_A, Apr 2022
The trip was cool. The tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. I wish we had more time at the photo ops. I would get rid of the trip to see the fish so that we could have more time at Multnomah Falls, Mt. Hood and the view of the lake with the U shaped road. Great day but moved from place to place to quick.
Beautiful

So happy we decided to book this day trip! Phil shared so much knowledge with us and we learned way more than we could have if we tried to take this trip on our own. We got to see a ton of great sights and didn’t feel rushed at all. Highly recommend if you are visiting Portland!
Lovely March tour
Suzanne_M, Mar 2022
We had a wonderful day exploring Multnomah Falls, Rowena Crest Viewpoint, and Mt Hood on this tour. Phil was our guide, and he was absolutely lovely. He struck a great balance between informative and friendly, and we felt like we had the right amount of independence too. Wonderful way to see these sites. Highly recommend. I took my two teenagers and they enjoyed it too.
Amazing tour with a wonderful guide
MariaFerguson_F, Mar 2022
Our trip was amazing even though the weather was really challenging. Our guide John was fantastic. His easy-going personality, his knowledge of the state and sites we visited, and his driving skills were all off the charts excellent. My daughter and I really enjoyed it and recommend this tour to anyone. Thanks again John and Viator!
