What You Can Expect

Mt Hood Day Trip from Portland to Multnomah Falls and Hood River

Columbia River Tour to Multnomah Falls, Hood River and Columbia River Gorge

Your 8.5-hour trip begins early with hotel pickup from downtown Portland. You'll embark en coach for an exhilarating morning drive through the Columbia River Gorge. Catch spectacular views of the Cascade Mountains that flank the river and glimpse a waterfall or two as you approach the Crown Point Vista House.

At this historic building, constructed in 1916 as a ‘comfort station’ for weary travelers, you'll admire sweeping panoramic views of Oregon and Washington before heading down into the lush green forests that make up the National Scenic Area.

Along the forested highway, visit Oregon’s signature waterfalls including Latourell Falls, Wahkeena Falls, Horsetail Falls and the famous Multnomah Falls. Join your guide and fellow visitors on Benson Bridge and snap a picture of the 611-foot-tall cascade of water as it crashes below.

Next, continue to Hood River, a picturesque valley town renowned as a prime destination for wind sports. Watch kiteboarders and windsurfers skate across the water as you learn about Hood River’s rich environmental and cultural history. Then take some free time for lunch, shopping or wine-tasting (if whimsy strikes you!).

The final stop on your guided tour is the glorious Mount Hood, Oregon’s tallest peak at 11,249 feet (3,429 meters) and Timberline Lodge. Take a mountain walk or a self-guided visit through the renovated lodge that was once the setting for the classic film The Shining.

Your day concludes back in Portland by early evening.

Enjoyable trip to Mt Hood, however, we were not quite lucky this part of day as the clouds and rain obscured the view. Timberline Lodge was cozy though. The side trip for fresh fruits and cheese and a lunch stop along the Hood River was fantastic. The scenery along the Mt Hood Scenic Loop including the falls of course was altogether refreshing.

Excellent trip, even in December, the Multnomah falls and others were stunning. Going to Hood River for lunch was really fun. Gunner our guide was awesome and was deeply versed in Oregon lore. Definitely went above my expectations.

Our tour group was quite small and I was so lucky to be part of it. Jamie, our tour guide was great and informative. She made sure that we were able to see all the glory of Columbia River Gorge, the Falls, and Mt Hood. 11/08/16 was such a perfect day; for a fall day, it was quite sunny. Recommended!

This tour was great! It was especially awesome due to our tour guide Steve. He was super knowledgeable with so many tips and facts. Unfortunately due to the time of year mid Oct and the weather, we weren't able to go up to Mt Hood or see it. Steve said it was too dangerous, snow was already falling up there. But he had an alternate plan and took us East and we went to see a different part of Oregon and into orchards. He didn't disappoint! The waterfalls were amazing!!!! I would definitely recommend this day trip.
