What To Expect

Your full-day tour of Oregon’s northern coast starts with morning hotel pickup in downtown Portland. Be sure to grab your coffee and breakfast for the ride to Neahkahnie Point, an amazing spot to look for whales and where you can see miles of Oregon's coastline. Disembark in Manzanita where you can spend time on the beach or explore the quaint boutiques in their downtown.

Next, head to Short Sand Beach where you embark on a short walk through old-growth forest before arriving at a beautifully secluded sandy beach.

Then head into Cannon Beach for some antiquing and lunch (own expense) before continuing to Haystack Rock. Walk out to Haystack’s base (if the tide is out), explore tide pools and glimpse scurrying sea creatures.

Then enjoy some free time to walk along the beach, warm up with locally-roasted coffee, and peruse the town’s eclectic shops and art galleries. Your return trip stops at Camp 18, a historical logging museum that provides a window into Oregon’s timber industry. Arrive back at your Portland hotel in the evening.

Camp 18 Museum

Those who want to learn more about logging history in the northwest, or who simply are curious about vintage logging machinery, will find plenty of material at Camp 18. Outdoor displays include multiple steam donkeys such as a Dolbeer single spool, a very early first-generation model, to a high-tech late-model Willamette compound geared yarder that was the height of technology for its day. Other displays on site include a large bandsaw from a sawmill, a self-propelled Ohio steam crane, Caterpillar-style tracked vehicles that worked in the woods, a railroad skeleton log car and other heavy equipment plus a wide variety of large and small hardware. We will make a quick stop here on our way to the spectacular Oregon Coast so that you can explore the historic equipment, use the restroom, and buy some coffee if you want.

Neahkahnie Mountain

This peak is an inspiring place, where the Tillamook tribe believed their most powerful god resided. In fact, the name Neahkahnie comes from their words Ne ("place of") and Ekahnie ("supreme deity").

Traveler Tips

There is a bit of hiking up and down to the beaches, so make sure to bring sturdy shoes and then some flip flops for the beach!
This tour is a must to get a true feel of Oregon.
Must visit Canon Beach with its fabulous food and shopping, and tucked-away Small Sand and Indian Beaches which remain in landscapes much like Lewis and Clark saw them!

Jeff was great!
kimchinguyen510, May 2022
Jeff was very friendly and helpful. He brought us to some “secret” spots for photo ops and to enjoy the views the coast has to offer. He went out of his way to make everyone comfortable and make the trip enjoyable. Will definitely comment the trip and Jeff to everyone!
Helen_Y, May 2022
Our tour guide Jeff was very accommodating and great. He had all kinds of vignettes either about the history of where we were or personal experience in Oregon. He always offered to help us take group photos and communicated very clearly what we were doing and what our options were. He took us to very nice locations, some of which that were only known by the locals. Very nice tour! I highly recommend seeing the west coast and doing something beyond the stereotypical water falls and Mt. Hood tours.

Endless breathtaking views!

Adam was very courteous, kind, and a bundle of knowledge about the history of the area, culture, people, etc. He took us to some bonus spots off the beaten path for extraordinary views. I mentioned wanting to see elk, and he made that happen too! This tour is a must, and ask for Adam!
Response from Host, May 2022

This tour gets 5 stars. Our guide and driver Norman was awesome, he pointed out every spot along the way where we could see the unique scenery that the Oregon coast has to offer. We spent plenty of time at each spot with ample time to have lunch at Cannon Beach. My favorite stops were Ecola State Park and Oswald West State Park where we hiked on a very easy path down to the beach. I had an amazing time and I would recommend this tour to anyone in the Portland area!

John did a great job and was very knowledgable. Unfortunately, it rained but the tour was great. The coast is beautiful and rugged and we enjoyed lunch at the local pub.
