What To Expect

Depart from Porto in the morning after pickup from your hotel and get comfortable aboard your minivan for the scenic drive inland.

Then continue on to Pinhão and admire the scenery with free time to explore the lovely village independently. Perhaps stroll to the Pinhão train station to view its blue-and-white tile murals depicting the scenic countryside and swathes of vineyards that make up the Douro landscape.

If you’ve upgraded your full-day tour to include a Douro River cruise, hop aboard a boat for a leisurely ride. Meander up the Tua River tributary and pass by Quinta da Romaneira before returning back to Pinhão.

Either before or after your cruise (if you've upgraded), pop into one of the wineries on the agenda for the day before lunch. 

After a traditional lunch of typical Douro cuisine accompanied by wine at a renowned restaurant, your guide takes your small group to another family-run estate where you discover local winemaking and enjoy a tasting session of award-winning ports and wines.

Stop by the shop to make any purchases before departing the Douro Valley for the relaxing return drive to Porto, arriving at your hotel in the evening.

You will visit Pinhão train station and it's famous tile panels that portrait the landscapes and life in the Douro Valley. Your guide will happily explain to you the meaning and scenes portrait on the panels.

Considered one of the most beautiful view points on the Douro, from here you can admire the river peacefully flowing while downhill you watch the village of Pinhão being embrace by the river that gave life to the village has a meeting point to board on the old times the barrels that carried the Port wine to it's aging place in Gaia.

This was an excellent and educational tour. We were 3 people total on the tour, which was a pleasant surprise. Our tour guide, Rodrigo, was kind and extremely knowledgeable. We enjoyed the boat ride more than we we expecting and loved the wineries that we visited. Highly recommend this tour!
Beautiful views and incredible wine!

This tour is a great way to experience the Douro Valley in a day. The round-trip aspect removes the need to drive and the van was very comfortable. We stopped at a gorgeous winery in the morning where we got a tour of the facility and the wine-making process before sampling some delicious wine. We then made multiple stops to admire the stunning views of the valley before taking a short cruise on the river itself. Finally, we made our way to the second winery for a wonderful meal and of course, another tasting of wine. If you like gorgeous views or delicious wine (or both), you can't go wrong with this experience!

Really superb tour and guide. The van arrived at the meeting point on time and after an initial stop for coffee, the first main stop was the river cruise, which was a very pleasant way to spend an hour on a sunny day. Then to the first vineyard with a superb view and excellent lunch with local wine. At the second vineyard, we tried 5 types of port. Both vineyards were family-run with a member of the family explaining their production. Definitely recommended

Such a relaxing and comforting experience! Traveling as a small group allowed us to fully enjoy the tranquility and amazing view during the cruise. The selected wineries provided us with great information, tasty wine and food, and I definitely felt their love and passion about their home land and the wine they produce. Also, our guide was superb driving us through the narrow and hilly trails throughout the tour. 100% recommend it!

44 countries visited and dozens of tours taken— This tour of the Douro Valley ranks among the top 5. João has certainly found his calling combing history and wine. João was enthusiastic about any and all questions that our small group of 4 had for him, and if he didn’t immediately have the answer, he made sure to find it during our next scheduled stop. João’s knowledge of the history of Portugal, Porto, and The Douro Valley painted a thorough and informative picture while never coming across as pedantic. Additionally, João had an impressive body of knowledge about the regions’ wines and cultivated the perfect tasting experience. I highly recommend this tour to any and all!

Best experience in Douro Valley

Amazing experience Sergio was superb, love his kindness with my 82 yo mother, very knowledgeable and accommodating to all our needs. We were a family of six and every single detail was taking care off diligently. Love love the experience with Armenio in our first stop of wine tasting, learned so much about Port wine and olive oil. We did the one hour cruise but honestly we would have to walk the town instead, so lovely. The whole experience was incredible, highly recommended ♥️

Fun Trip to the Duro Valley

We had a great time on this tour. It turned into a private tour when we were the only ones to book (benefit in traveling in a low season). Rodrigo took great care of us and was a fantastic guide. He was so knowledgeable about Porto and wines. We learned a lot from him. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t great but that was beyond our control but we still had a great time. The boat ride was okay. It was rainy and windy and I feel it didn’t add anything to the experience. There was no commentary, just sitting on a boat and looking at views from the Duro River.

We had a fantastic time exploring the Douro Valley with Philippe as our tour guide! Pick up was easy and on-time, and I think all of us in the van appreciated the quick coffee stop before we made our way to the first winery. Both wineries we went to were great and offered us the opportunity to try all kinds of Douro wines from reds, whites, roses, and the wide range of Ports as well. We also got to try olive oils and honeys from one winery as well. The lunch we were given was more than substantial and offered a taste into standard Portuguese fare, dishes that we had not specifically had before. Throughout the day and throughout lunch, Philippe was present to answer our numerous questions, share his own knowledge about the region, and provide us with insight into what life was like from past to present in Portugal. We would absolutely love to do a tour with Philippe again, and we would love more days in the Douro Valley in the future.

It was an amazing trip. Our guide Sergio was very knowledgeable, and he put a lot of effort to make our trip pleasant. Our van went up and down narrow old roads of the area, which was a hidden fun part of the trip for me!

Amazing views, fun tasting and history of the region

Our guide, Filip, was super knowledgeable and fun. We learned a lot about the history of Porto wine and the Douro region, our lunch was delicious, especially loved the charcuterie and the carrot cake. We enjoyed visiting the wine cellars and learning about the making of the wine. Great views of the Douro valley, too! Unfortunately we had a cloudy day, but on a sunny day it must be absolutely stunning. Overall 10/10 would recommend.

Our tour guide was wonderful, he was so kind and helpful throughout the trip, and took very good care of us. The boat on the river was my favourite part of the day, so calming and beautiful. I would have preferred to end the day after that rather than going to another tasting.

First of all- Our tour guide, Sergio, was wonderful and very patient with us! We absolutely loved his company and how knowledgeable he was. The initial communication with the company was great (CoolTours) as they kept us up to date on pick up times / traffic delays for our pick up. The van for the tour was very well taken care of and comfortable. We did not opt into the cruise (good because we were not blessed with cruise-weather) and this allowed us to take our time with lunch and a nice coffee. Nothing felt rushed and at a good pace. The two wineries were just amazing and everyone was very hospitable. I know other tours have 3 winery visits but believe me, I think 2 wineries is the right amount for a day tour; specially if they're as nice as the ones you get to visit with this tour. I've done several wine tours before but can't really say I learned as much as I did on this one. The first winery, in addition to white, reds, and several ports, had us taste their olive oil and explained the production process. The second winery served us a very large home cooked lunch, accompanied with our own wine bottle, before getting a small tour and a full tasting of their port offerings. Fully recommend this experience :)

We loved the experience with our tour guide, Paulo, from Cool Tours Porto! The small group was the way to go and we got to know the travelers on our tour group. The tastings at small- medium wineries was wonderful and learned a lot about this historic wine region.
