What You Can Expect

Douro Valley Wine Tour from Porto Including Lunch

Taste some of the best Portuguese wines on this day trip from Porto!

Your full-day wine country journey begins with a convenient pickup at your central Porto hotel. Settle into your luxury coach transport and kick back on the scenic drive into the Douro Valley. After approximately 1.5 hours, arrive in the lush valley, where majestic views of terraced vineyards and  UNESCO-listed hilltop villages surround you.

Take in the views at your first stop, a classic Portuguese adegas, or wine estate. Tour the grounds of this stately winery, learning about the grapes it grows and how they turn it into wine. See the cellar, where the wine is stored and bottled, then sample some of the wines and learn about the different tasting notes with your guide.

Enjoy a savory 3-course lunch with wine at a traditional Portuguese restaurant in the valley. At your next winery, an 18th-century adega, learn about the wines more in-depth so that you may contrast and compare how the different terroir (soil) affects the tasting notes of the wines. You’re in for a treat — this small producer specializes in fortified Port wine, which Portugal is famous for. Sample some of the different kinds they produce and, if you like, select a bottle to take home (own expense).

Hope back in your coach bus and relax on the leisurely drive back to central Porto. Your tour concludes with a drop-off at your hotel in the early evening.

This was an amazing tour. The scenery is stunning on the drive up to the Douro from Porto. The guide was excellent, enthusiastic and knowledgable. Lunch was by the water in a beautiful restaurant serving local food in generous quantity along with good local wine. We then embarked on a boat trip that showed us more of the beauty of the region. Highly recommended.

We really enjoyed our day in Lamego and the Douro Valley. Our guide, Pedro, made the trip wonderful. He was very personable and friendly. I am traveling with my parents, who had a lot of questions, but as my father said, Pedro was never stumped. The Valley was beautiful, too! Great day.

It was an excelent day. Jonathan was a very good diver and guide. The tour description did not mention a short boat cruise on the Douro which was a nice surprise. Highly recommended!

The tour was conducted by livingtours. Excellent guide Joao, comfortable touring in an 8 seater van, good commentary and explanations, fantastic lunch included by the river side, two winery visits, a great boat trip and sufficient free time. The Douro country side is absolutely beautiful and a must visit. If there is only one trip you can make out of Porto, this is it!!

Our tour guide Johnathan was informative, funny, light hearted and courteous to the 8 people on the trip. The trip included a boat ride on the douro and lunch plus a stop at two wineries. It was a little pricey but in the end worth it.

Let me begin by saying, The Douro Valley is the most beautiful in the world. We have many areas in France, Italy, Slovenia and California to compare it to. The tour was the best we have taken with the best tour guide we have ever had. Miguel, you were awesome. We were picked up promptly and the tour started right away. He pointed out landmarks in this beautiful city.
Throughout the tour he would ask if everything was going well and he made sure that all questions were answered no matter what the subject.
The scenery, the small towns, history, wineries, lunch, river cruise, watching the production of Port and the tastings were wonderful. We can't say enough about Miguel and the tour. Thank you. Willard and Lorraine

Wow! One of the best small group tours we have ever taken. Our guide Jonathao sp.? whatever the Portuguese is for Jonathan was fabulous and literally went the extra mile to make this a great experience. Oddly, the Viator description of the trip given over the phone because it was a last minute booking did not mention some of its features, such as the Duoro River boat tour.
