We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Claudia, our guide was exceptional. She took great care to patiently explain everything to us in both English and Portuguese to accommodate everyones native languages. In Braga, the shrine of Dom Jesus, was particularly inspirational. After a delicious lunch, Claudia took us to Guimaraes. She led us on a leisurely stroll through its very charming streets and plazas. Along the way, we visited a castle, a church, and other historic attractions. Free time is built into this tour to allow you some freedom to further explore or relax on your own. That is a comfortable way of making the overall experience very accommodating. I would highly recommend this tour.
This tour was amazing. Our driver, Daniel from Living Tours is a great trilingual guide/driver, and it was a pleasure getting to know this unknow beautiful region of my very own country, Portugal. The other passengers who accompanied us were also great. It was a thoroughly fabulous experience.
Nuno was a great tour guide and very knowledgeable. The small group size made the tour personal and everyone was friendly. The sites around Braga and Guimeres were beautiful and lunch was tasty!
Absolutely amazing day, tour and tour guide! Sofia was our tour guide and I cannot say enough about her. She was knowledgeable, patient, happy, flexible and just a joy to have a tour with. The city tours were also awesome, both cities were worth visiting. The architecture of both cities, though different was amazing. You do need to wear comfortable shoes, as there is a bit of walking, but Sofia has an easy pace to follow. Both cities have a lot of history. The guimaraes connection to Santiago de Compostela was pointed out by Sofia, very interesting. The churches in Braga were beautiful and worth a visit, the picture opportunity abound in both cities. I would have loved to visit in May because I can imagine the flowers in front of the church of Bom Jesus du monte was expectacular. If you go with living tours, ask for Sofia, you will thank me.
After taking this tour you will come away with a better understanding about the three largest cities in Northern Portugal. If you have already spent a day or two in Porto you already understand why it is the commercial center of the three aforementioned cities. This tour will enlighten you as to why Braga is the religious center of the north and Guimaraes the center of nobility.
The van picked us up at our hotel at 9:00. We stopped at a nearby hotel to pick up the third member of our group and off we went. Our driver and guide, Pedro, was absolutely outstanding. His knoweldge of both the political and religious history of the north was amazing. In Braga we visited two religious shrines on the outskirts of the twon and from there we visited the cathedtal in the center of the city.
After our visit to the cathedral we stopped for lunch. The menu of the day included soup, a choice of meat or fish, salad, dessert and your beverage of choice.
From Braga we made the ten-minute drive to Guimaraes where we visited the Castle and then leisurely made our way to the center of town strolling through the world heritage streets. We were back in the van at 5:00 and reached our hotel at 6:00. A most enjoyable experience!
The day was rainy but we had a great time. The guide was fun, knowledgeable and patient. Took the time to make sure we saw more than was promised.
