What You Can Expect

Porto City Tour Including Cruise, Port Wine Tasting and Lunch

Taste delicious port wine on this private day trip

After meeting your guide for a pickup at your Porto hotel, hop aboard an air-conditioned minivan and begin your full day city tour of Porto. Begin with a half-hour drive that explores Porto and its beautiful waterfront. Learn about the city’s blue collar roots that’s helped mold its rich tradition.

Cross the river to Vila Nova de Gaia and discover Porto’s most famous industry, port (a fortified wine). From here, if you have selected the rabelo boat cruise, take a classic trip up the Douro River. Experience how these wooden boats once transported massive quantities of port to the wineries in Porto. As you sit back and unwind, savor a serene ride past coastal sights and under six bridges that cross the river.

Return to the port wine lodge and begin a traditional port wine-tasting. Listen as your guide explains how the port industry produces the world’s best fortified wines. Then, drink up a few varieties of port including a white, tawny and ruby. After enticing your taste buds, continue to a traditional Portuguese restaurant for a hearty lunch.

After filling your belly, voyage to the city center and put your legs to work with a stroll up the Clérigo Tower. At the top of this Baroque-style monument that stands 249 feet (76 meters) tall, gaze over the winding streets below. Snap you last photo, march back down and continue with a walking tour of the city. Head to the Ribeira district and step inside the illustrious Livraria Lello bookshop to admire its ornate wood carved interior. Then relish a visit to the São Bento Train Station adorned with distinguished azulejos tiles. Finally, cruise around Porto Old Town and learn why this area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

After a day uncovering Porto’s culture and history, return to your Porto hotel and wish your guide happy trails.

Fantastic tour! Our guide, Anna, was so knowledgeable and caring. We saw the city, the boat tour, port wine tasting and also learned so much about the rich history of Porto. Loved that it was a small group tour my family of three and four other people. Lunch was delicious in a beautiful restaurant. Highly recommend this excellent value tour.

Our tour of Porto led by the excellent Anna was really enjoyable, well worth the money. Shame it was raining in the morning, but at least it meant the day was cooler. Really good not to have to queue for tickets to enter the Lello bookshop. We saw the best sites, well explained. Nice lunch, nice six bridges river cruise, followed by a fantastic visit to the Graham's port cellars and wine tasting. A really enjoyable day, plus collection from and return to our hotel.

This was an outstanding city tour. We were met at our hotel by Nuno - last name Silva and
he was exceptional. Nuno spoke fluent English and had a great knowledge of Porto. We were
very lucky and had him all to ourselves. We were touring from 9 AM until 6 PM and we did it all -
all the great monuments, bookstores, Portuguese food, Port Wine tour and tasting and a boat cruise.
It was great - I highly recommend this tour and this city and ask for Nuno....thx Clayton - USA

Joanna was helpful and professional and a wonderful tour guide, with only two of us it felt like hanging out with an old friend. She was knowledgeable and gave very good ideas and advice. I would have no hesitation in recommending any of my friends and family.

We loved our tour and tour guide. The lunch was nice too. The guide was very accommodating. My husband has trouble walking and since the other traveler with us had done a walking tour the day before, we did some walking and he drove my husband up to where we would be walking and parked the van where he could and rejoined us. Very impressive and very appreciated by my husband! We enjoyed the walking tour, it was nice to sit for lunch and then the river cruise was so relaxing and seeing the beauty of Porto along the river was great. We then went to the Port tasting at a very large winery with too many people. Informative but too crowded. The person with us along with my husband and I were in Porto to taste Port. The place we went to had different levels of Port to taste. We were given the least expensive level and the ports were very young. I understand how tour groups are we go wine tasting a lot where we live and bus tours and tour groups tend to just taste and not buy. Just a suggestion is to screen your clients who are going on wine, beer, port or alcohol tours to see what category they are and base the tours on the clients. Again we would have preferred a smaller place with not so many people and be able to taste their older ports. We enjoy talking to the people who are pouring we are there to not only taste but to learn. We would use Viator again, we had another excellent tour with them in Lisbon. Great guides great service.
